About AWEC

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Our vision in AWEC is “an inclusive and just society with sensitized and responsive public and private sector, where all women and children have access to opportunities to improve their quality of life in order to realize their full potential”.

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Grant Management and Donor Relations.
  • Providing guidance and quality control for the development of proposals and the writing of reports, working closely with regional program managers, technical staff, other AWEC agencies and Finance Manager.
  •  Researching potential avenues of funding for AWEC and maintaining up-to-date information on donor interests and priorities
  •  In conjunction with AWEC Donor Units, deepening and broadening relations with donors through informed policy dialogue and exploration of major programmed issues, lessons learned articulation of achievements and impacts and data verification.
  •  Facilitating donor evaluations and other stakeholder visits.

Program Development:

  • Ensuring coherence and coordination programmes and providing strategic guidance and advice on program development
  • Identifying areas of research for improving sectored understanding and program initiatives

Knowledge Acquisition and Management:

  • Developing and maintaining a detailed understanding of all work being implemented by AWEC main & sub offices in Afghanistan
  •  Assisting in the development and maintenance of a project information and management system
  •  Supporting capacity-building efforts with AWEC projects and grantees.

       Communications:

  • Assisting in the development and dissemination of effective communications materials on Education Programs
  •  Drawing out and documenting lessons learned.

      Outcome Assessment:

  • Assisting in the development of a strategic approach to measuring overall program outcomes.
  •  Identifying gaps in policies and operational procedures as well as bottlenecks that hinder field implementation and achievement of program goals, and recommending solutions to these issues.

      General Support to AWEC:

  • Participating in key AWEC strategic planning and budget preparation meetings
  • Acting as an internal resource on overall programming issues for AWEC staff
  •  Attending meetings, workshops and conferences as necessary as an AWEC representative
  •  Providing overall support to the External Relations and the Head of Unit, as required, including deputizing for the Head of Unit when necessary.
  • Creates, directs, and monitors AWEC programmatic activities and works with the Executive Director on the full range of AWEC programs and services.
  • Provides leadership in integrating of AWEC’s activities into larger program plans and goals; supervises staff on program-related activities.
  • Works with Executive Director on board meetings and meetings with national Board of Advisors on AWEC programs.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and plans
  • Directs programmatic vision, development, and implementation consistent with the mission and goals set by AWEC’s Executive Director, board, and the organizational strategic plan.
  • Anticipates and responds to constituent needs and implements meaningful programs to meet existing needs.
  • Initiates and investigates new program opportunities; identifies organizations that share and/or overlap with AWEC’s priorities;
  • Serves as representative for AWEC at program related conferences, cluster meetings, briefings, and other events.

Job Requirements

Position Objective

To ensure efficient and effective management of AWEC programs including staff management and contract and grant administration. To ensure effective communication within projects and between all AWEC projects and support staff.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor Degree in similar field/ Masters is an advantage

Experience & Skills: 

  • At least 2-4 Years Experience in relevant field
  • Good quality of instruction
  • Fluent in Dari, Pashto & English written and spoken
  • Computer skill in MS. Office packages
  • Familiar with planning & prioritizing tasks
  • Honest, Motivated, tolerant, active and well mannered
  • Strong Interpersonal, communication & reporting skills
