About Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC)

The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace.  AWSDC key thematic focus areas are Peacebuilding, Women Rights/GBV, Livelihoods, WASH and Humanitarian Response. The organization geographical areas are Kabul, Kunduz, Faryab, Herat, Balkh and Samangan Provinces. The organization since the startup of first wave of COVID-19 has provided humanitarian assistance to nearly 65,000 COVID-19 affected men, women and children under its geographical areas. Likewise, AWSDC is one of Humanitarian Actors that provides protection, WASH and Emergency Shelter and None food items to vulnerable Afghanistan across the country.

 

AWSDC in response to the humanitarian crisis is scaling up its interventions to serve more people through provision of life savings assistance, GBV, WASH, Food/None Food Items.   Recently AWSDC has aligned its strategic priorities to the address the acute deficits of affected population through provision of protection services, WASH, Food Assistance and NFIs in Afghanistan.

 

AWSDC is in the process to recruit Protection Project Manager to support the project team in the implementation of Women Protection project in Balkh Province.

Job Description

AWSDC is in the process to hire competent staff to implement Women Protection project in Herat, Province. The focus of the project is to establish and run one women community center to provide women and girls skills with recreational activities, facilitate timely and confidential referrals, provision of GBV core principles and PSS first aid training to donor’s implementing partners based in Herat province, conduct dialogue sessions with community leaders and increase community awareness on women and girls protection and the type of services provided by AWSDC under the project. AWSDC target areas for the project intervention is Herat City- Jebrail district of Herat province.

 Position Summary:

The position holder (Protection Manager) will be responsible for a team of 6 Social Organizers, 2 Psychosocial Support Counsellors, and 3 community center guards. The key responsibility will include to plan, implement and support the project team in the implementation of the planned activities under Women Protection in Herat. The staff will be placed in the women community center. Likewise, the project manager to supervise the project activities in Jebrail district to track community awareness, community dialogues conducted by the project social organizers.

Job Requirements

  1. Coordinate the project activities in the target Province with stakeholders, Afghanistan protection clusters, GBV sub-cluster, child protection sub-cluster, UNHCR, and other protection actors.
  2. Prepare the daily, weekly and monthly plans in compliance with the project work plan,  outputs, activities and targets
  3. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and final narrative reports for the donor.
  4. Support, monitor and supervise project activities
  5. Ensure staff safety and security and safe access to the project site in joint collaboration of Child Protection and Access focal point
  6. Work on inter-agency referral pathway to ensure the cases are timely referred to service providers.
  7. Organize trainings on the protection core principles and referral pathways to UNHCR Protection and Livelihood partners
  8. Organize trainings on psychosocial first aid trainings for UNHCR Protection and Livelihood partners in coordination with UNHCR and MHPSS specialized organizations as a trainer.
  9. Ensure and facilitate timely and confidential referrals to appropriate services based on the GBV SC referral pathway SOPs and referral card Collect and consolidate the number of referrals made by UNHCR partners who undergone the trainings.
  10. Supervise awareness raising/information sessions capitalizing on the existing UNHCR/partner interventions (groups of beneficiaries for livelihood program, PSS program, CBPM etc.)
  11. Organize Safety Audits in coordination with UNHCR and multi-sectoral partners and consolidate a report.
  12. Provide training for those who conducts Safety Audits.
  13. Analyze the findings and regularly report to UNHCR, and other stakeholders as deemed necessary.
  14. Establish the women community center and supervise activities at cetnter through identifying the priority areas for empowerment/recreational/educational activity   and propose activities at Women Community Center
  15. Any other tasks assigned by the project Program Development Specialist/Program Director.

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management in the area of Women Protection, preferably experience in protection intervention for women and girls, in the field and in complex environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervising the team that consists of social worker/community mobilisers.
  • Experience in social work, case management and/or community engagement.
  • Excellent knowledge on GBV principles and inter-agency guidelines and tools
  • Excellent understanding of the local contexts, familiar with both local languages ( Dari and Pashto)   and skills in stakeholder management
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Proven experience in report writing in English.
  • Solid Computer skills and competency in word, Excel as a minimum
