Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Duty station in Kabul travel to Badakhshan, Samangan and Ghor provinces. 
  • Lead WASH aspects of technical assessments in coordination with other thematic areas and/or other external sector agencies.
  • Contribute to PDRM to the identification and design of additional opportunities for short, medium and long-term programming
  • Develop technical standards for all WASH construction and hygiene promotion programming within emergency and early recovery contexts adhering to humanitarian standards.
  • Ensure the quality assurance of all ongoing WASH ongoing works as well as immediate interventions, such as water trucking and distribution of emergency sanitation/hygiene facilities and kits.
  • The role of WASH Specialist will be preparation of the training materials and to conduct the project’s planned trainings to the community members. Also the WASH Specialist will be over seeing the Hygiene Promoters and assist them in their role of awareness raising sessions.
  • The specialist supports the preparation of various technical and administrative tasks, related to the development, implementation, monitoring and supervision of the WASH outputs and results of field office.
  • Provide comprehensive and current data to inform WASH policy and programme development, planning, management, and implementation
  • He/she will oversee and provide technical support in the design, implementation and monitoring of appropriate WASH interventions in close cooperation with programm director and technical staff on the ground.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss WASH priorities, resources, strategies and methodologies to ensure the most strategic use of the collective resources of external support agencies.
  • Assist the KAP survey team in conducting KAP household survey at the village level and
    Data entry of KAP questionnaires into the database.
  • Provide technical and operational support to project field staff on the application and understanding of WASH strategies, processes and best practices to support programme implementation
  • Develop and maintain relationships and work closely with local WASH actors, including national and local government, private sector, community, NGOs and other related sectors.
  •  Participate as program’s WASH representative in WASH cluster and other related meetings/workshops.
  • Undertake trainings to WASH staff on the topics of WASH Facility Accessibility and Water Efficiency, hygiene and sanitation.
  • Any other duties as and when assigned by the line manager, MD and/or Directorate.
 

Job Requirements

Education & Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Public Health or related field. Masters preferred.

Work Experience

  • 5 years in a relief setting with WASH management or managerial experience; from starting up programs to working in emergency and transitional contexts.
  • Experience in complex and complicated settings with time sensitive deliverables in unstable environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and communicate effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment.
  • Internationally recognized qualification in project or program management or a commitment to obtain the qualification in the early months of work.
  • Knowledge of Sphere standards and other training in humanitarian response preferred.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving
  • Experience in assessing training needs and building the capacity of project participants Professional Skills, Competencies, Values and Attitudes
