Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  1. Provide individual and group health education and awareness raising  sessions on predetermined health promotion topics including, but not limited to prevention of malaria, vaccine-preventable diseases such as (COVID-19, polio, TB, HBS, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, H-influenza, pneumonia, rota, measles), malnutrition, maternal child health and WASH (Safe drinking water, hygiene, sanitation for those attending health facilities.
  2. Ensure delivery of routine immunisation activities based on MoPH/WHO immunization policy strategy. Develop immunization microplan for outreach and mobile team in consultation with project health assistant/PEMT on monthly/quarterly basis.
  3. To maintain an update list of the EPI and MCH dropouts to follow them in outreach and mobile sessions.
  4. To provide COVID-19 vaccines to migrants, IDPs and host community population in target provinces as available.
  5. Ensure safety of vaccines (observing VVMs), prevent vaccine wastage, regular record vaccine storage temperature, and strictly maintain cold chain system at all times.
  6. To  respond immediately to any cold chain irregularity using local resources including transfering Vaccines to other closest health facility with cold chain system and report  to project Health Assistant.
  7. Timely prepare vaccines need request to PEMT, strictly maintain Infection Prevention protocols and attend the national EPI events as appropriate.
  8. Actively seek out communities in need of C-19 vaccines and other activities, including regular disease outbreak monitoring, collect statistical information, take part in the health awareness campaign, etc.
  9. To mobilize the community to immunize their children and women of reproductive age.
  10. Contribute to the consistent and accurate collection of data into the KOBO system—vaccinations and mobile clinic activities.
  11. Assist medical doctor in   identification, reviewing of the medical history, and reviewing of examination results during mobile clinic outreach and static border facility consultations
  12. Participate in the preparation of the monthly and daily schedule of the mobile clinic in collaboration with local government stakeholders and the health cluster and partners.
  13. Maintain a daily checklist of all medical and delivery equipment and medicines to ensure that all medical kits are prepared and fully stocked, with all medical supplies organized, listed, and within the expiration period
  14. Assist in the overall management of medicine stocks— record-keeping, standard reporting, and prepare medicine requisitions
  15. Contribute to weekly MHT staff meetings for program development and problem solving.
  16. Provide complete accurate and on time monthly activity reports, entered daily into Kobo.
  17. To ensure safe and dignified treatment of all beneficiaries.

Job Requirements

Experience

  • At least one year’s experience in relevant clinical fields and outreach health promotive and preventive activities
  • Previous experience in international organization is an advantage. Knowledge and experience with working in the field and medical emergency department and Trauma management will be considered an advantage.
  • Effectively applies knowledge on clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, administering medication, phlebotomy, maintenance, surveillance data collection, Health Education etc.
  • Previous practical authentic experience on providing Psychosocial First Aid will be advantageous. 
  • Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries
  • Working in emergency and development project

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with implementing partners.
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary

Languages

Fluency in English, and Pashto are required

Working knowledge in Dari is desirable
