About Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC)

The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace.  AWSDC key thematic focus areas are Peacebuilding, Women Rights/GBV, Livelihoods, WASH and Humanitarian Response. The organization geographical areas are Kabul, Kunduz, Faryab, Herat, Balkh and Samangan Provinces. The organization since the startup of first wave of COVID-19 has provided humanitarian assistance to nearly 65,000 COVID-19 affected men, women and children under its geographical areas. Likewise, AWSDC is one of Humanitarian Actors that provides protection, WASH and Emergency Shelter and None food items to vulnerable Afghanistan across the country.

 

AWSDC in response to the humanitarian crisis is scaling up its interventions to serve more people through provision of life savings assistance, GBV, WASH, Food/None Food Items.   Recently AWSDC has aligned its strategic priorities to the address the acute deficits of affected population through provision of protection services, WASH, Food Assistance and NFIs in Afghanistan.

 

AWSDC is in the process to recruit Protection Project Manager to support the project team in the implementation of Women Protection project in Balkh Province.

Job Description

About the project:

AWSDC is in the process to hire competent staff to implement Women Protection project in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh Province. The focus of the project is to establish and run two community friendly centers form women and girls skills and recreational activities including referral pathways, provision of GBV core principles and PSS first aid training to the project team and donor implementing partners, conduct dialogue sessions with community leaders and increase community awareness on women and girls protection and the type of services provided by AWSDC under the project. AWSDC will hire 8 social worker/community mobilizers (4 couple’s one male and one female preferably wife and husband or sister and brother).

 Position Summary:

The position holder (Social Worker- 1 couples one male and one female) will be responsible for the mapping of communities, conducting awareness session and organizing dialogue sessions with community leaders on the services provided by AWSDC. The staff will be placed in AWSDC Provincial Office in Mazar-e-Sharif with daily field visit for conducting awareness and dialogue sessions and supporting the project team in one of the two community centers in Mazar-e-Sharif.

Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assist in mapping and mobilization of the potential locations for the activities for women and girls, in coordination with CBPM provincial focal points.
  2. Identify the community structures, and will engage with men, women, boys, girls, persons with disabilities, etc. to promote a reliable communication network for the implementation of activities for women and girls in target locations
  3. Conduct dialogues with identified community structures and leaders on project, referral pathways and benefit from the project.
  4. Conduct awareness raising/information sessions on referral pathways and other relevant topics in target communities engaging men, women, boys, girls, persons with disabilities and other population groups in contextualizing the activities for women and girls in target locations.
  5. Coordinate project activities with target communities
  6. Report to Protection Manager on conducted activities, challenges and observations in community on weekly basis
  7. Support communities and beneficiaries understand and get access to Feedback and Complaint Response Mechanism
  8. Perform data collection for safety audits, and impact evaluations
  9. With the consent of POCs, refer them to Protection Manager/Safe Space Supervisor to facilitate timely and confidential referrals to appropriate services.
  10. Support Protection Manager in day to day operation of the Safe Spaces.
  11. Work on safe spaces to ensure attractive activities are designed and delivered for women and girls in a cost effective manner in the safe spaces, and we have regular consultation with the participants.
  12. Assist in management of recreational and educational activities in the safe spaces.
  13. Any other tasks assigned by the project manager/safe space supervisor.

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • A Bachelor degree in social science or graduated from high school
  • Minimum of 2 years’ social work experience, community engagement and/or community mobilization particularly in the field and in complex environment
  •  Excellent listening and communication skills, problem-solving and inter-personal skills
  • Working experience particularly with women and girls
  • Solid Computer skills and competency in word, Excel as a minimum
