Job Description:

Job Purpose 

The incumbent will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the Child Friendly Spaces (CFS), Peer Support Groups, Child Rights Clubs, and Community Protection Committees (CPC) in the IDPs and the host communities in which War Child UK’s is operating in the Western region of Afghanistan.  

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Social Worker will work closely with the Community Based Child Protection Mechanisms to identify and refer vulnerable children for Case Management services. 

  • Oversee interventions in the CFS by providing supervision, tools/resources, training and coaching to CFS facilitators.  

  • Support the development and implementation of CFS weekly work plans, submit weekly reports on activities and challenges, support planning and implementation of activities, monitor minimum standards in the CFS and ensure equipment in the CFS are maintained in good condition. 

  • Liaise with implementing partners and government stakeholders at the community level to ensure all children access psychosocial support services. 

  • Supervise and coach Community Based Child Protection Mechanisms (ex: CPCs, child clubs, peer support groups and others) to strengthen the protection environment for IDPs and host community children. 

  • Design and facilitate community mobilization/sensitization campaigns in collaboration with Case Workers, Community Based Protection Mechanisms, and children/adolescents. 

  • Provide psychosocial support services to children and their families in line with the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action  

  • Ensure staff and volunteer sign and adhere to War Child UK’s Code of Conduct and are trained in the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.  

  • Coordinate and work with the IDPS and host community local leadership to negotiate and resolve conflicts involving children in a peaceful manner.

Job Requirements

Person Specification 

War Child in Afghanistan operates in a dynamic environment with a team of highly motivated and dedicated staff. The right candidate will share these qualities and bring effective leadership to a diverse team. The position requires strong relationship management and coordination skills, experience in humanitarian programming and protracted emergencies, supporting partners in a remote setting, a good knowledge of the challenges of operating in cross border environment, and experience with capacity assessment and capacity building. 

 

Experience and mandatory criteria: 

  • Minimum of Diploma in Social works, Counseling Psychology, or relevant discipline. 

  • Previous work experience in community development or with an INGO (preferably in child protection) 

  • Experience in facilitating community meetings.  

  • Minimum 2 years of professional humanitarian experience (past experience working with refugee communities a plus) 

  • Excellent writing, facilitation, and organizational skills. 

  • Excellent command of the English language and another local language. 

  • Strong drive for results and ensuring timely delivery of quality products. 

  • Experience in Community Based programming and Child Friendly Spaces 

  • Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation, research and conducting participatory, community-led assessments.  

  • Excellent community mobilization skills  

  • Ability to work individually and within a team with limited supervision. A self-starter.  

  • Good analytical, problem solving and project planning skills. 

  • Able to communicate clearly and strategically with internal and external stakeholders as a representative of Plan. This includes effective negotiation and representation skills. 

  • Strong capacity building/training/coaching/mentoring skills with communities and internal and external staff  

  • Computer knowledge - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
