Job Description

GLOBAL OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:

The Social Worker is responsible for maintaining close cooperation with the targeted local communities for the identification, selection of beneficiaries, follow-up on the provision of personalized social support, on-the-training job, business support, and VTC activities. Maintain good relationships, coordination, and communication with beneficiaries, local partners, business owners, and other relevant stakeholders.  

Together with the line manager and Technical Coordinator develop effective tools to be used for identification, needs assessment, enrolment, personalized support, coaching, and follow-up of actions for people with disabilities, the social worker will provide support to the partners implementing the project:

  • Support in the identification of those in need, according to the project identification criteria
  • Advocate for and develop plans to improve the well-being of project beneficiaries
  • Equip the partners on how to refer persons with disabilities to community resources and/or other organizations
  • Work with individuals, families or groups
  • Conduct awareness raising on the rights and participation of women and people with disabilities for the partners
  • Ensure enhancement of the project’s inclusivity through staff training in disability inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION:

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

  • Support project the implementation of project practices through an enabling relationship and concept of empowerment
  • Identify and advise on adaptations that can be made to ensure the participation of people with disabilities in skills development activities/group activities
  • Prior to the training, support project participants in setting their career goals during the personalized social support (PSS) process i.e. starting a business (some as individuals, some as groups, and others work from home, etc..)
  • Ensure that awareness raising on disability and inclusion to all partners
  •  When needed, facilitate the number of people participating in self-help group (SHG) meetings on a quarterly basis, disaggregated by sex, age, and disability status
  • Support partners in their assessment to make sure people with disabilities are included
  • Conduct visits across the provinces to provide advice for the implementation of disability adaptations and meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities
  • Ensure appropriate identification of material/ tools that might need adaptation for people with disabilities
  • Conduct a mapping of disability-specific resources and services in the targeted areas to establish a strong referral mechanism
  • Follow-up on referrals
  • Maintain contacts with Organizations of People with Disabilities working across the targeted Provinces
  • Assist the beneficiary through personalized support and identify the type of assistance they may require.
  • Exchange experience and lessons learned among the field staff
  • Takes into consideration the MEAL’s recommendations and findings
  • Ensure the appropriate documentation of the project activities.
  • Contribute to the organization of the weekly plan, with the support of the Project Officer/Manager
  • Support the partnering projects, whenever requested

REPORTING

  • Provide regular and timely reports on the activities implemented
  • Coordinate with the database team to ensure the data entry
  • Take photos and draft occasional success stories as identified in the field
  • Reports ideas and information from project staff or field visits, which may assist in future project proposals. Such information will be included in reports.

    • Demonstrate motivation at work.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to improve his/her own knowledge and skills by participating actively in any training sessions, capacity-building activities…
    • Participate in the different activities that are common to all team members (identification of needs of beneficiaries, internal and/or external referrals)
    • Respect each team member’s positions, work, and specificity
    • Adapt to special situations or demands from supervisor (reporting, etc.)
  • Respect hygiene and security rules
    • The Social worker respects and applies basic hygiene rules
    • He/She observes at all times strict commitment to Handicap International Security & Safety regulations as per procedures in place at the mission level
    • He/She supports information internal dissemination to relevant focal persons at the mission level aiming at reinforcing the security and safety of Handicap International staff and assets
    • Considers safety and security in the field for the team and the beneficiaries.
    • Immediately report all incidents to the project Officer/Manager.

 

  • Demonstrate ethics and professional practice:
    • Show professional ethics, and respect and promote the Handicap International mandate
    • Among others, He/she respects the beneficiary’s privacy and confidentiality (He/she only shares medical information with medical staff/persons directly involved in the beneficiary’s care)
    • Respect the Handicap International protection of children policy and protection of beneficiaries from sexual exploitation and abuse policy and report to your line manager any non-respect of HI’s policies amongst the teams or partners.
    • Always interact with children in the presence of their parents or caregivers
    • Always respect a refusal of service.

Job Requirements

Knowledge required

Essential

  • 12th class graduate
  • 1-2 years experience on the topic of inclusion and disability
  • Ability to establish contacts and working relationships with partners and organizations.
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong comprehension of the needs of persons with disabilities and elder population
  • Strong skills in community mobilization.

Desirable:

  • University Degree (highly desirable)
  • Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel) and the internet

Skills required

  • Excellent written & spoken in Dari and Pashto
  • Written and spoken English is an asset
  • Ability to work with different types of beneficiaries
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills, and active listening skills
  • Problem-solving skills

  • Able to work both independently and in a multicultural team environment
  • Able to work under pressure and in an unstable environment
