Job Description

  1. Background and context

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent non-governmental organization working with refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants. As part of livelihood program interventions, DRC provides business development trainings to targeted male and female beneficiaries, who will be targeted under Micro Enterprises (ME) project funded by varies donors. The project is design to support individuals who have experience of business, have business with limited resources (existences), motivated to establish new business.  The project aims to establish businesses around the communities to create income generation, communities need improvement, women participation among the communities and generating employment opportunities which will effect on the human impact as well.  In addition, business development trainings to the beneficiaries in order to manage properly their business, beneficiaries will also be provided with technical support (in kind or cash).  

  1. Purpose

As part of its livelihood program interventions, DRC provides business development trainings to targeted female and male beneficiaries of MEs, under its micro enterprises (ME) project funded by varies donors. The program is design to support individuals who have experience of business, run a business with limited resources (existences), or are motivated to establish a new business. The business development training also targets qualified trainees of the vocational training project, apprenticeship, and work placement activities. Since DRC has experienced employees in all its offices at Afghanistan and they are well trained in the business activities of MEs in the last three years. One of the LH officers from LH team will undertake the training of the beneficiaries.

 

  1. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver excellent practical training to 25 to 30 trainees as per the training schedule and in line with the training curriculum.
  • Including conduct practical activities to ensure maximum learning. These include role-play, group work and individual activities.
  • Build a good understanding of the assigned trainees’ individual strengths, weaknesses, skills, and areas for improvement and tailor training accordingly.
  • Ensure trainees understand and learn the expected skills in the target areas of training in class and in field.
  • Fully understand the Training Schedule and coordinate with LH team to prepare the necessary handouts and material for distribution and sharing with the trainees.
  • Fully prepare to deliver the training material to the trainees with excellence and resolve any questions raised related to the subject of training.
  • Arrive at the training venue at least 15 minutes before the start time of the training.
  • Ensure trainees’ dropout rate is kept to the minimum level, through various techniques including direct engagement and building a good rapport with the trainees.
  • Prepare and conduct a pre, during and post training tests of the class participants and provide a brief report by the end of each class to the LH management on the challenges of the training and progress of the trainees in acquiring the intended skills.  
  • Keep complete records of the trainees’ data including attendance sheets, evaluation forms, quiz results and other related documents to the class and report accordingly to the management
  • Support ME beneficiaries to develop business plan as appropriate to their aspirations and market demand.
  • Immediately advise DRC livelihoods staff of any important safety or maintenance issues in relation to the training course, center or location
  • Act in accordance with the DRC ‘Code of Conduct’, including not using corporal punishment or threats when training and to refuse any offers of payment by trainees, potential trainees, or the families of potential trainees.

Specifications of the Training Program:

  • Training in the field of business development with components on:
  • Starting, running, and growing a small or medium enterprise in a rural area of Kabul, Maidan Wardak and Ghazni provinces based on the placed manuals.
  • Maximum 8 hours of training per day (with one 60-minute break) for five day a week.  
  • Assessment tools and evaluations of trainees’ progress over time to time.
  • Trainees include non-literate with at least one year or less of experience in a related field. 

 

Job Requirements

  • Advanced educational background in one of the areas of: Business Administration and Marketing, Sales, or a related field.
  • Must be SIYB certified
  • Proven track record of training in relevant areas.
  • At least three years of experience in business related field.
  • Prior experience in developing, delivering, or managing training programs, preferably in a business-related area.
  • Demonstrated excellent English, Pashto, and Dari (based on demanding areas) writing skills combined with strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • Strong familiarity with the private sector and its nature of work in SME level.
  • Preferred: proven experience in starting own small business.
  • Preferred: professional experience in Marketing and Sales, and Business development management.

  1. Roles AND responsibilities OF DRC LIVELIHOODS PROGRAM STAFF

 

As per DRC livelihoods staff’s ToRs, including the following;

Recruit and supervise the work of the Business Development Training Trainer to ensure He/ She is performing His/ Her role appropriately.

Provide a full session orientation on the designed training manual from the experts.

Visit the business development training sites at least daily and liaise with the trainer to identify any problems and address these in a timely manner.

Support the trainees to identify and resolve issues to facilitate successful outcomes for trainees

Verify trainee attendance sheets, weekly training plans and other materials

 

  1. Reporting ArrangementS

The Business Development Trainer reports against the above-mentioned activities on a weekly basis to DRC Senior Livelihoods Officer or assigned DRC LH staff.

  1. DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT

This ToR covers the period from (1 October 2022 ) to (31 March 2023).
