Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  • Manage Nutrition Online database, Including IMAM and monitoring component of nutrition online database\

  • Support strengthening nutrition surveillance system.

  • prepare joint and individual monitoring plans with nutrition partners.

  • Supervise and manage related functional units.

  • Leading all nutrition assessments and surveys and provincial and national level.

  • Conduct nutrition data analysis and recommend corrective actions on quarterly base to nutrition partners.  

  •  participation in coordination meeting with HMIS/MoPH and BPHS/EPHS Implementers and provide required information/feedback to improve quality of nutrition data

  •  Ensure quality data collection of all nutrition programs, processing at central and provincial levels and provide regular feedback to relevant partners as result of analysis of the data. 

  •  Receive quarterly activities reports from 34 provinces and provision of appropriate feedback.

  •  Lead AIM technical working group of PND-MoPH

  •  Ensure that existing and ongoing assessments/researches and surveys are in line with PND plan and priorities.

  • perform monitoring and supportive supervision of nutrition assessments/ researches and surveys and to provide appropriate inputs.

  •  keep abreast of relevant nutrition policies and guidelines and communicate necessary updates to all PND`s staff, PNOs and the NGOs focal points. 

  •  Collaborate with other nutrition component`s representatives (including MIYCN micronutrients, IMAM, growth monitoring, surveillance capacity building and coordination) for strengthening all nutrition interventions.

  • Explore several approaches for improving data collection, data analysis and data use of nutrition activities.

  •  Develop/revision the necessary guidelines, protocols, ToRs, survey checklists/questionnaire and etc.

  • Conduction/organizing and/or facilitate any research related trainings inside/outside PND.

  • Provide on time visualized nutrition data for PND.

  • Work with PNOs for utilization of health facility monitoring data for improving nutrition service and data quality at health facility and community level.

  • Close coordination with nutrition partners on reporting, creating and utilization of quality nutrition data.

    To undertake other related activities as requested by the PND director, as required to ensure an overall efficient implementation of community-based nutrition activities.

  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Fluency in both local languages (Pashto and Dari) is must

Computer:

Be able to work in all aspects of Ms. Office (Ms. Word, Ms. Excel, Ms. Power point and etc.), outlook and internet browsers

Key qualifications

  • Minimum requirements MD with focus on nutrition with 5 years’ experience in the related field.
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, Power BI, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in English, Pashtu and Dari
  • Excellent facilitation skills
