Job Description

Under the overall guidance and supervision of Security Guard, Supervisor or his/her nominee(s) the Security Guard is responsible for the safeguarding of the AKAH premises, equipment and systems against damage or loss. The incumbent is also responsible to check and monitor all In/Out of assets and office belongings and get gate pass if any assets move from Office/Guesthouse. The Security Guard will perform the following functions:

 

(MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS):

  • Prevent visitors who are carrying weapons from entering the office/guesthouse.
  • Secure the project office/guesthouse at the finish of working day.
  • Inspect all incoming mail and packages and report immediately to the administration any suspicious package, bags or envelopes.
  • Open and close the gate, search vehicles and visitors and answer visitors’ questions.
  • Direct visitors to register their details upon entering the office/guesthouse.
  • Identify AKAH, A field staff and guide them to the concerned manager / person.
  • Operate the generator as instructed.
  • Deal politely and professionally with visitors, staff and colleagues.
  • Patrol the compound ensuring the safety and security of the offices/guesthouse, equipment, vehicles and staff.
  • During night shift, ensure the office/guesthouse premises, equipment and vehicles are secured and security lights are switched on.
  • Ensure that non-staff personnel are not admitted to the Office/guesthouse, including AKAH, A terminated staff, police, NDS personnel, contractors, visitors at any time without clearance from administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality and must not disclose any information to the visitors and staff, the organization’s activities.
  • Communicate through VHF and HF radio if required.
  • Working alternatively night/day shift according to schedule if required.
  • Immediately advise management of any suspicious activity or any event that represents a security risk to staff, equipment, vehicles or the compound.
  • Not to allow any official asset to be taken out without a proper gate-pass and approval of Operation Head.
  • The guard must help the staff in the office and in the guesthouse with some relevant work such as fixing wire in the evening (as far as possible), providing water, cleaning the backyard and purchasing groceries when required. 
  • Undertake any other task assigned by your immediate supervisor and/or Security Manager.
 

Job Requirements

SPECIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

 

Education:

  • Ability to read and write would be an advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 2 to 3 years of working experience as watchman or security guard with national or international NGOs.

Skills: 

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage work related stress.
  • Ability to work on night shift.
  • Ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive issues in a responsible and mature manner.
  • Should have working knowledge of first aid procedures and fire safety.
  • Able to act promptly and effectively in preventing any violation and intrusion.
  • Able to read simple English language instructions and understand it.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of using HF, VHF radio and Codan and security codes.

Other Skills:

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Personal Characteristics:

Must be physical fit to carry out the responsibilities.
