Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction

Medair Afghanistan has been operating since 1996 and currently works in three provinces: Daykundi, Uruzgan, and Kandahar. The country's main office is in Kabul, with multiple field offices. Medair implements WASH, Food Security, Health and Nutrition programming.

Job Description

General Responsibilities:

  • To be flexible, willing to assist in other areas of work (Ops Room back up)

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follow Medair`s Security SOP`s.
  • Stay awake and alert at all times when on duty.  Regularly patrol the compound, day and night, a minimum of every two hours.
  • Keep the gate guarded and locked at all times.
  • Open the gate for Medair vehicles leaving and returning to base.
  • Ensure that no uninvited persons enter the compound and alert a Manager if this occurs.
  • Receive and announce visitors.
  • Monitor that no weapons enter the compound.
  • Accept and deliver letters and packages to the compound.
  • Clean the driveways and yard on a weekly basis to keep them clear of snow, dust and dirt.
  • Keep the compound clean and tidy.
  • Ensure that the generator is always in working condition. And refuelling the generator,  
  • Turn generator on and off when required and ensure the Log book is filled out correctly.
  • Ensure the water pumps are working.
  • Keep heaters filled with kerosene/diesel/wood and notify Logistics when stocks become low.
  • Light the wood bukharies as required.
  • Cook for Medair staff from time to time.
  • Escort visitors,
  • Do the body search for visitors and mirror check of vehicles,
  • To be able to cover for our ops room when needed,                                                                                                                                    

*The working hours will be arranged in a rotating schedule.

Job Requirements

Work experience

  • 1-2 years working experience as a Security guard 
  • Previous experience with an NGO

 

Language skills

  • Dari & Pashto - spoken and written
  • Basic Writing and Spoken English

 

Personal

  • Flexible and willing to perform other tasks in order to facilitate the running of the base

 

Integrity/honesty

  • Works with integrity and honesty
  • Able to maintain confidentiality

 

Organisational capacity

  • Able to work without supervision
