About Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC)

The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace.  AWSDC key thematic focus areas are Peacebuilding, Women Rights/GBV, Livelihoods, WASH and Humanitarian Response. The organization geographical areas are Kabul, Kunduz, Faryab, Herat, Balkh and Samangan Provinces. The organization since the startup of first wave of COVID-19 has provided humanitarian assistance to nearly 65,000 COVID-19 affected men, women and children under its geographical areas. Likewise, AWSDC is one of Humanitarian Actors that provides protection, WASH and Emergency Shelter and None food items to vulnerable Afghanistan across the country.

 

AWSDC in response to the humanitarian crisis is scaling up its interventions to serve more people through provision of life savings assistance, GBV, WASH, Food/None Food Items.   Recently AWSDC has aligned its strategic priorities to the address the acute deficits of affected population through provision of protection services, WASH, Food Assistance and NFIs in Afghanistan.

 

AWSDC is in the process to recruit Protection Project Manager to support the project team in the implementation of Women Protection project in Balkh Province.

Job Description

About the project:

AWSDC is in the process to hire competent staff to implement Women Protection project in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh Province. The focus of the project is to establish and run two community friendly centers form women and girls skills and recreational activities including referral pathways, provision of GBV core principles and PSS firs aid training to the project team and donor implementing partners, conduct dialogue sessions with community leaders and increase community awareness on women and girls protection and the type of services provided by AWSDC under the project.

 Position Summary:

The position holder (Safe Space Supervisor) will be responsible for the management of women and girls recreational spaces, supervise the performance of PSS counsellor, Social Workers, timely provision support and supplies to the safe space, maintain proper record of the clients served in the center, ensure that the planned activities are completed within the project timeframe, etc. The staff will be placed in AWSDC Provincial Office in Mazar-e-Sharif with daily field visit to one of the two community centers in Mazar-e-Sharif

 

Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities

 

  1. Supervision of Community Center staff including support staff
  2. Ensure support for women and adolescent girls, including psychological first aid (PFA), safe referrals and information sharing, adheres to best-practice principles when working with women and girl survivors of GBV
  3. Align with internal and inter-agency Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policies and procedures, reporting SEA through the AWSDC mechanism
  4. Develop and support the implementation of service mapping and service quality audits
  5. Give guidance to the case workers/social workers in making safe, confidential and timely referrals to services in line with the survivor-centered principles
  6. Ensure the whole team is adhering the GBV referral pathways and are providing feedback to you on the functioning of this for action and forwarding to the Protection Manager
  7.  Ensure quality referrals between the AWSDC and other service providers for the coordinated, confidential and safe support to women and girl survivors of GBV according to the data protection and referral procedures
  8. Ensure that all data collection (paper and electronic) reporting tools are used accurately on every day, and are then provided on schedule to relevant staff (i.e. Protection Manager)
  9. Monitor daily/weekly data collection to ensure that the data is managed in safe and ethical ways
  10. Prepare and submit weekly and monthly work plans in a timely manner, and incorporate supervisor feedback as requested
  11. Identify concerns related to and support adherence to GBV referral protocols by all relevant organizations and agencies; report up to the Protection Manager
  12. Maintain effective working relationships with relevant partners including community-based protection mechanisms and other service providers (in particular the Regional GBV sub-cluster partners and service providers) to work collaboratively for a quality survivor-centered response
  13. Ensure that the dedicated project staff for the community center is conducting required services in the community centers
  14. Prepare periodic progress reports of the services provided on quarterly bases for donor and management reporting
  15. Coordinate and report requested supplies and inputs required for the operationalization of the center to project admin/finance officer and timely supplies to the center
  16. Coordination and collaboration with the communities for the protection, safety and security of the community center
  17. Collaborate with the social organizers while conducting dialogue sessions and awareness sessions with the target communities
  18. Ensure mapping of service provider is available and full coordination and collaboration to receive and refer GBV cases
  19. Any other tasks assigned by the project manager.

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • A Bachelor degree in GBV, Gender or relevant field 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with at least 2 years of experience needed in the field of Gender and/or GBV
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Psychosocial counselling with national and INGOs in Afghanistan- familiarity of the target district is the added value. 
  • Strong practice of workplace diversity and inclusiveness
  • Knowledge of GBV and case management and protection interventions
  • Strong communications skills. Fluency in written and spoken English; spoken Dari and Pashto is an advantage.
  • Good computer skills both Word and Excel necessary
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
