Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of the Protection Assistant is to assist in the day to day implementation of assigned Protection activities as delegated by the Protection Officer and as defined by Country Office’s strategic and policy frameworks.

In particular, the Protection Assistant will be supporting, under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer and the overall guidance of the Protection Coordinator, the close implementation and monitoring of field activities focused on protection monitoring, referrals and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA), in addition to conducting regular protection risk analysis’ and protection needs assessments. The post holder will be spending most of his/her weekly time in the field locations.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities, community representatives and other key stakeholders
  • Assist the field team with close monitoring of project activities and ensure they are implemented based on agreed upon plans
  • Ensure timely collection and sharing of information
  • Assist with administration and logistic arrangements required for implementation and monitoring of activities
  • Development of holistic and needs based programmes, including cash-based interventions

Specific responsibilities:

  • Assist the field team with community outreach and engagement with local authorities, community representatives and other relevant stakeholders based on project implementation priorities as communicated by management
  • Assist the team with implementation and monitoring of the following field activities: protection monitoring (HHs level protection monitoring and conduction of FGDs), in addition referring the people in specific need to the referral pathway and following up the result of referral on daily bases
  • Quality data collection from the people of concern in the field and upload the collected data into the server on daily bases
  • Professional referral through the referral pathway
  • Making professional communication in terms of referral with other stakeholders and actors in the field
  • Assist the field team with data collection to inform relevant internal and externally-commissioned protection assessments, risk analysis, needs assessments
  • Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
  • Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses
 

Job Requirements

Generic professional competencies:

  • 2-3 years of previous experience working in the humanitarian sector and specific into protection intervention is preferable
  • Understanding of the humanitarian principles and strong commitment in ensuring their observation in daily field activities
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • knowledge of English, both written and verbal, is an advantage
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
  • At least 2-3 year of previous experience working in Protection or Protection-related projects is an advantage
  • Excellent command of Dari or Pashto, both written and verbal
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the local context, including socio-cultural, political, security and humanitarian situation

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in social science or related fields
