About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world.

Job Description

  • Review AFGA’s existing Communication Strategy, identify the amendments needed in line with AFGA’s management and donors’ requirements and revise it accordingly.
  • Develop branding guidelines for AFGA in consultation with AFGA senior management team, donors and stakeholders.
  • Orient relevant AFGA employees to ensure their under understanding of and full implementation of the communication strategy and branding guidelines at all levels.
  • Support AFGA employees in the implementation of the communication strategy and branding guidelines. 
  • Other activities

  • Review AFGA’s current communication channels, suggest changes and after approval, implement the changes.
  • Maintain and manage AFGA’s website and social media pages to ensure that sufficient information is disseminated in timely manner.
  • Develop annual and quarterly communication plan and budget, discuss it with CEO and ensure that the plan is implemented effectively.
  • Introduce innovation in all aspects of AFGA communication in consultation with CEO.
  • Act as AFGA’s spoke person in media and other relevant meetings and forums and ensure that AFGA is well presented.
  • Perform any other M&E related tasks assigned by the CEO.
  • Branding

  • Develop branding guidelines for AFGA in close consultation with AFGA senior management team and donors and ensure that donors’ branding requirements are considered.
  • Monitor and ensure implementation of the branding guidelines at all levels.
  • Review the guidelines periodically and introduce improvements as required.    
  • Reports and Publications

  • Review the existing reporting and recording mechanism to identify the required improvements, and introduce the improvements in consultation with AFGA CEO and SMT members.
  • Collect data and information from AFGA programs and initiatives for different publications such as newsletters, success stories, press release and donor reports etc.  
  • Monthly Progress Reports (MPR): Compile Monthly Progress Reports (MPR) received from programs/projects and other departments, and circulate on monthly basis.
  • Quarterly Progress Report (QPR): develop QPR based on MPRs and circulate on quarterly basis.
  • Annual Progress Report (APR): collect data and information for APR, develop, design and circulate it as per AFGA communication strategy.
  • Success Stories: collect data and information from AFGA programs and projects, develop success stories and publish them through different AFGA publications.
  • Coordinate translation of the AFGA publications as needed, into local languages and their printing accordingly.
  • Disseminate AFGA’s reports and publications in timely manner and in line with AFGA communication strategy and defined procedures.  
  • Upload AFGA publications and reports on AFGA website and its social media pages.
  • Review and edit progress reports to donors drafted by program team to ensure its alignment with donor requirements and contractual obligations.  

Job Requirements

  • Master Degree in Journalism, business administration or social science from a reputable university.
  • At least have 3 years of comprehensive experience in Journalism, public information and communication preferably with NGOs.
  • Pashto, Dari and English languages fluency, and the ability to write excellent documents in English.
  • Should be able to travel to project sites in the provinces.
