Job Description

The psychosocial council is a key staff in the project to work closely with children and their
families in the community and s/he will be in direct contact with them for supporting children on
their PSS and protection related concerns.
Under the direct supervision of the Provincial Manager the PSS Counciler is responsible for the
identification of the most vulnerable adults, adolescents and children for Mental Health &
Psychosocial support as per defined selection criteria of program, with the close collaboration of
a social worker and CFS’s Animator.
Responsibilities:
 Ensure that the goals and objectives of the PSS are met as per the project proposal and
work plan.
 Ensure the implementation and promotion of mental health and psychosocial support
activities at the community level and CFS’s.
 Provide individual counseling and maintain confidentiality during service provision.
 Provision of quality PSS first aid service according to MHPSS national protocols.
 Collaborate with the CFS Animators, Social Workers and Case workers for case
management support purposes.
 Assess PSs cases that need a referral as per the referral criteria and ensure that the referral
system is well followed and obstacles are reported and discussed with the line manager
with the aim of solving them.
 Identify major stressors for women and children in community.
 Promoting psychological well-being and participation and strengthening coordination
with other service providers for better PSS intervention and referrals.
 Regular updates and reports are shared with the line manager/provincial reporting officer.
 The beneficiaries are well aware of KRO and Child Protection projects and their
activities.

 Make sure during the beneficiaries selection as per the defined selection criteria.
 Build relationships with the beneficiary to encourage trust, while listening to their needs
and concerns.
 Respond to distressed beneficiaries in a non-threatening manner and attempt to
understand the source of their discomfort.
 Help the beneficiary manage their emotions through de-escalation techniques.
 Provide evidence-based individual therapy, such as cognitive behavior therapy for
depression and anxiety.
 Prepare and maintain the beneficiary records and produce care plans and risk assessments
 Work with the beneficiary’s families and carers, to help to educate them and the
beneficiary about their mental health problems.
 Visit the beneficiary in their home to monitor progress and carry out risk assessments
with regard to their safety and welfare.
 Provide psychoeducation sessions for PSS beneficiary and their respective families
 Ensure all aspects of work are in line with KRO’s PSS intervention guidelines, key
aspects of Psychological First Aid (PFA).
 This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and the employee will also perform
other related tasks as required by the Line manager and the scope of the intervention
 Responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the
specific assigned tasks.
 Inform the line manager if any professional problems encountered.
 Conduct all duties in a professional manner following MHPSS guidelines.
 Ability to handle multiple tasks on an on-going basis, and adapt to a shift or change in
priorities, including the ability to work a flexible work schedule as needed to meet
deliverable deadlines.
 Attend all the planned organizational training.
 Improve Community Awareness material, context-sensitive, with modern images that are
understandable for beneficiaries who experience stress symptoms.
 Provide support to social workers and Social Animators in order to do the mapping of
services in the eastern region.
 Developing and maintaining a service mapping (through referral questionnaire for
specialized service providers) and an efficient referral pathway.

Reporting
 Prepare and submit weekly and monthly activities progress reports to provincial reporting
officer and line manager.
 Prepare success stories on PSS activities with good quality pictures in coordination with
case worker, case worker supervisor, Social Workers and CFS animators.
 Contribute in documenting the response, experience and lessons learned on child
protection, Case Management and PSS.
 Provide input to the development of the child protection intervention.

Job Requirements

Bachelor in Psychology or Social Psychology with mental health and Psychosocial
background or related field with 3 years of professional experience.
 Manages time and priorities, meets deadlines.
 Cooperates and contributes to achieving goals.
 Supports and advises colleagues on PSS related tasks.
 Adapts communication to the intercultural environment.
 Respect for others.
 Well aware of the community of good and bad practices including the context of working
and adopting oneself to the community norms.
 Experience in applying Behavior Change Communication models.
 Fluency in oral and written communication in Pashto, Dari, and English, including
representation, liaison, and negotiation skills.
 Being a local resident of Urozgan and Zabul will be preferred.
 Ability to work closely, professionally, and constructively with all others regardless of
nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or cultural background

Skills:
 Commitment to serving children, do no harm and best interests’ principles.
 Strong believer in children being agents of change in their communities.

Technical Competency:
 Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children.
Computer skills:
 (Including MS Word, Excel, Access, and internet) an advantage
