About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world.

Job Description

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for leading and management of the Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) project.  He will be controlling Ultrasonographic user paid services in 4 target provinces (Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh and Herat). Also, He/She will be supporting AFGA in revising the Business plan for Comprehensive Reproductive Health Center (CRHC) that is planned in the second phase of this project. In addition, the Project Coordinator manages the 10 Community Outreach Midwives services in different parts semi urban areas in Kabul. He will communicate with national and international stakeholders and will support AFGA in drafting concept notes, proposals and Expression of Interests.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

The Project Coordinator will specifically be responsible for the followings:

Duties:

  • Responsible for management of the LHSS project including planning and implementation of the project activities in line the project agreed quality and timeline.
  • Address contractual and technical programmatic issues and works with functional units to prepare modifications and negotiate changes with the stakeholders or clients.
  • Develop effective working relationships with clients, counterparts and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the project activities.
  • Co-ordinate closely with project donor to ensure effective contract management.
  • Drive customer satisfaction with on-time delivery, exceptional performance, and 100% accountability.
  • Develop procedures to increase income generation by implementing sound quality services at AFGA static clinic level, and in near future at Comprehensive Reproductive Health Center (CRHC).
  • Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs related to programmatic activities, duties and responsibilities of project’s income generation. Particularly, the ultrasonological services in Kabul, Nangahar, Balkh and Herat.
  • Ensure necessary resources are provided to meet program requirements, directing, controlling, and ensuring procurements are made in accordance with AFGA procurement policies.
  • Monitor program’s progress against the contract and organizational goals and objectives, and ensure they are consistently and adequately met.
  • Manage day-to-day performance static clinics and community outreach midwives to ensure quality performance and compliance with contract and organizational requirements.
  • Manage staff performance and lead evaluation, performance discussions, propose increases, etc.
  • Ensure staff receive regular constructive performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and time and opportunity to grow.
  • Promote staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.
  • Resolve staffing and resourcing challenges through creative and cost-effective approaches that are within budget.
  • Provide technical, financial, operational direction and oversee program implementation to ensure on-time delivery of the contract scope of work, and seek opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Support development of program deliverables and perform high level reviews and quality control to ensure timely reporting.
  • Conduct supervisory programmatic site visits to ensure the team is on track and the program is meeting the customer’s expectations.
  • Responsible for reporting all the project activities on weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis and maintaining hard and soft files of projects.
  • Any other assignments due by line manager

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Graduated from a recognized Medical University. Candidates with MPH, MBA/BBA degree will be preferred. 
  • At least 4 years of project management experience in Health-related Project is required.
  • Work experience in NGOs on relevant programs in Afghanistan is required.
  • Works experience in USAID funded projects in an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and fluency in Dari, Pashto and English is required.
  • Report writing skill is required.
