Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  • Preparing monthly activity plan with clear technical way forwards to the program gap with Southeast SBC officer Polio for further implementation in the field. 

  • To based fulltime in khost province for supporting the ICN under supervision of Southeast polio SBC officer.

  • Utilizing immunization and communication data, develop comprehensive communication strategy for Southeast, support the provincial team with special focus on increasing the routine immunization under direct supervision of SE polio SBC officer.

  • Assess the communication landscape of the local media, traditional communication channels and other community networks available and engage those as part of the C4D strategy mix at local levels.

  • Ensure Communication FLWs have clear social mobilization micro-plan on monthly basis. provide technical support to Communication team PCOs, DCOs, CCs and SMs to produce work plans

  • Support communication team in the engagement activities by identifying and working with local influencers to address vaccine uptake issues.

  • Facilitate communication for vaccination training including IPC and refresher training as required and adjust materials based on local data of non-vaccination, local perception of vaccine.

  • Support the provincial team for distribution / dissemination plan of IEC materials, and other promotional materials ahead of immunization campaigns.

  • Plan for and conduct motivational activities for field workers, promote heroism and provide input for external comms stories about field workers sacrifices, successes and field innovation.

  • Draft monthly report on field Polio - SBC activities and results of communication, promote successes and share directly with Southeast SBC officer.

  • Assist with updating, reviewing the polio IEC materials based on the local audience feedback, research findings and emerging issues.

  • Assist with social data interpretation and recommendation for action points and improvements of Community engagement work.

  • Liaise with the provincial departments of public health, the immunization program to ensure the RI referral services are strengthened and that communication activities are jointly agreed with all partners, with focus on routine immunization and polio campaigns support.

  • Ensure to participate in all relevant PEI/EPI coordination meetings, (taskforce, advocacy and community engagement meetings/gatherings).

  • Ensure to increase the female’s contribution in the Polio program in accordance with the Gender role and regulation.

  • Ensure to Plan, implement and report the Cross border specific development activities under the guidance of Regional SBC officer.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, Economics, Community Development.

  • 2 years in community development work with govt. of NGO.

  • Knowledge of local languages in program area.

  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media & others).

  • Demonstrated interest & / or experience/ community development

  • Flexible & open to learning & new experiences.

  • Respect for diversity & adaptability to other cultures, environments & living conditions.

  • Good interpersonal, networking & communication skills.

  • Willingness to contribute & work as part of a team.

  • Fluency in spoken & written French is required.

  • Working knowledge of English is an advantage.
