Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  1. Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities (Good Dispensing Practices is ensured).
  2. Ensure medicine stock management for the assigned pharmacy and implementation of pharmacies standards.
  3. Provide support and technical input on all issues relevant to pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and equipment.
  4. Ensure monthly consumption reports/inventory of health facilities
  5. Conduct a regular spot check, monthly complete stock count, implement pharmacy check list and update the related documents accordingly.
  6. Monitors the availability of medical products to avoid stock-outs and financial losses generated by expired items and/or wastage
  7. Take timely measures to avoid stock-out and expiry of medicines and supplies
  8. Analyze demands/consumptions, prepare regular forecasts, calculate replenishment orders, and initiate timely stock withdrawal request accordingly.
  9. Manage medical stocks ensuring security and maintenance.
  10. Ensure medicine receiving, storage and dispatching according to guidelines/SOPs
  11. Perform visual and physical quality control checks on all items received
  12. Keep all the pharmacy records/documents and inventory accurate and up to date.
  13. Ensure timely reporting on stock status.
  14. Make sure that the pharmacy medical commodities stored under proper storage conditions.
  15. Assist in ensuring Quality Assurance in medicinal and supply management.
  16. Assist in improving and ensuring the rational use of medicine
  17. Strictly follow IOM standards with respect to customer-friendly services, confidentialities of medical information, ethical standards and healthy working environment.

Any other related task that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from an accredited academic institution. Pharm. D holding pharmacists will be preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience in pharmacy management of relevant working experience
  • Working experience with the UN, IOM or INGOs preferred.
  • Experience working in hardship duty stations and emergency settings with complex operating environments preferred.
  • Strong computer background, including experience with databases, Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Operational and field experience in migration, refugee and displaced persons related programming is an advantage.

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments.
  • Very good people skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and partners.

Languages

Fluency in English is required

Working knowledge in Dari and/or Pashto is an advantage.
