About Agha Khan Health Services

Aga Khan Health Service, Afghanistan (AKHS,A), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is a long-term partner of the ‘Ministry of Public Health, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’ for the implementation of “Basic Package of Health Services” in three provinces (Baghlan, Bamyan and Badakhshan), and implementation of Essential Package of  Hospital Service (EPHS) in Badakhshan and Bamyan province. AKHS-A is implementing three Community Midwifery Education Program Schools each in Bamyan, Badakhshan and Baghlan.

 

Job Description

Scope of the work: Coordinates in planning, directing, and monitoring all activities of the Department of Pharmacy Services within and outside the Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement BPHS Pharmacy policies and procedures in the hospital
  • Participate in ward rounds to enhance patient pharmaceutical care.
  • Maintain and update personal drug knowledge data base to ensure accurate provision of pharmaceutical care of general disease states.
  • Verify prescription accuracy and validity, for effective provision of service.
  • Ensure availability of all medicines according to BPHS
  • Ensure accurate dispensing of drugs and co-ordinate the drugs dispensing process ass per approved procedures.
  • Liaise with clinicians on the appropriate administration of drugs.
  • Liaise with users on pharmaceutical requirements of drugs.
  • Communicate directly with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers to relate information regarding patient drug therapy.
  • Verify prescription accuracy and validity, for effective provision of service.
  • Effectively control drugs under the "Dangerous Drugs Act".
  • Prepare timely and accurate Pharmacy reports for Hospital and National office.
  • Ensure effective methods of stock control through use of stock cards and registers.
  • Co-ordinate regular departmental and drug audits
  • Provide monthly drug consumption and needs reports
  • Prepare stock requisitions according to established re-order levels.
  • Liaise with National Office, Kabul in procurement of quality drugs.
  • Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings.
  • Ensure rational use of pharmaceuticals in line with clinical governance and evidence-based medicine.
  • Participate in budget preparation and implementation of controls to achieve department targets.
  • Review prices for the department at regular intervals through market survey.
  • Maintain cost control and proper balance of financial expenditures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all interventions and recommendations regards drug therapy and their outcomes.
  • Effectively respond to patient complaints.
  • Participate in group meetings with other departmental managers for establishment and review of objectives.
  • Work with subordinates to establish effective managerial control through delegation and coordination.
  • Any other duties assigned by Clinical Manager  

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s in pharmacy from a recognized university

Work Experience: Working experience: 2 years        

Skills: 

  • Willingness to take up additional training for doctors.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Able to work independently and can take initiative
  • Flexible team player
  • Good coordination skills
  • Able to work independently and can take initiative

Languages:

  • Good spoken and written English language skills

Computer skills:

  • Good computer skill in word, excel, MS office,

General:

  • Bamyan local or willingness to stay in Bamyan for a long time.
  • Willingness to do on call duties after closing hour.
