Job Description

Overall purpose:

The assistant producer will work as part of BBC Media Action’s production team in Afghanistan. S/he will be undertaking multi-media content production duties on a daily basis, mostly indoors with some outdoor production activities. The person will also be responsible for recording, editing, or revising audio and video content, as well as inviting guests and program participants from across Afghanistan.

Main duties & responsibilities:

To contact local community councils, NGO’s and CSO’s to find a representative mix of audience members.
To help evaluate and respond to feedback from the audience.
To support the development, management, and creation of content on a variety of platforms.
To work effectively with other departments, suppliers, & partners (internal & external), ensuring the BBC maintains excellent relationships throughout.
To ensure all content is of a first-class standard: thoroughly researched and accurate, in-keeping with audience needs and expectations.
To have the desire to develop specialist production skills to be able to operate in a multi-skilled environment.
To undertake administration duties relevant to the production’s smooth running where necessary.
To interpret and implement creative briefs from key stakeholders and to work within the resources allocated.
To ensure that output complies with BBC editorial, technical, design, and accessibility standards and that BBC health and safety policy is observed.
To use a variety of specialist production skills, including audio and visual editing, in a multi-skilled environment.
To undertake any other production duties requested by the line manager.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge Skills and Experience

At least 3 years of demonstrable experience working in a broadcast or content production environment
An understanding of the political, economic and cultural developments and sensitivities of Afghanistan
Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto local languages and a good understanding of the English language
Awareness of or willingness to learn more about BBC Editorial Guidelines and the ability to put these into practice
Ability to develop creative ideas that engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment.Excellent communication skills

Hands-on audio and visual editing tools such as but not limited to Adobe Audition and Adobe Premier
Good typing skills in English, Dari and Pashto keyboards
