Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  • To contribute to improving the availability and demand for quality of expanded program of immunization (EPI) services by families, to protect women and girls and boys from vaccine-preventable diseases
  • To develop (together with Community Mobilizer) monthly outreach vaccination plan in line with the agreed micro-plan 
  • To estimate and ensure receipt of all vaccines needs and other supplies for each settlement in the outreach plan, from the focal health facility under the direct supervision of the District supervisor 
  •  To screen and appropriately vaccinate all eligible children (U5 years for Polio vaccines and U2 years for EPI)  
  • To document in both cards and register EPI vaccines issued and next appointment and vaccines to be given for each eligible child and tally all OPV vaccines issued. 
  • To provide proper health education and awareness on values of vaccines and timeliness of vaccinations to care givers  
  • To refer caregivers to HFs for any child that present with other symptoms of disease or infection eg malnutrition, fever etc 
  • To manage all vaccines provided and ensure good chain system is maintained throughout the outreach vaccinations (using cold ice packs)  
  • Perform such other relevant duties assign by the line manager and supervisor
    • Perform other tasks -within area of expertise- as requested by the supervisor
    • Documents contact data in the registration book
    • Data collection and reporting

Logistics:

    • Ensure safe storage of all vaccine and material and equipment
    • Ensure accurate record keeping of stock movements
    • Assis to   the In charge in preparing stock requests
  • To facilitate effective delivery of routine and emergency vaccination through improving the availability and demand for quality of expanded program of immunization (EPI) services by families, to protect women and girls and boys from vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • To increase awareness, encourage greater community participation and ownership that creates demand for health services
  • Monitoring women’s health during their pregnancies.
  • Helping to develop and support a woman’s birth plan.
  • Undertaking clinical examinations and screenings as part of antenatal care.
  • Carrying out screening tests and taking blood samples and temperatures.
  • Identifying high risk pregnancies.
  • Administering drugs on exemption.
  • Running parenting classes as part of antenatal care.
  • Assisting with care and monitoring during labour and birth.
  • Providing advice and support to parents of newborns, for example teaching new and expectant mothers how to feed their babies.
  • Performing emergency procedures and referring women to other medical staff where necessary.
  • Writing reports and documenting assessments and care
  • Ensure health basic information and IEC materials are utilized during awareness sessions.
 

Job Requirements

  • Excellent writing, verbal communication skills with the ability to write for multiple platforms and audiences.
  • Understanding of, polio vaccinations, or interest in, children’s health issues and their wellbeing

Qualification:  

  • Education: Diploma in Health
  • Work Experience: Minimum 2 year of practical professional work experience in healthcare
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency, Pashto, and Dari
