Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  1. Identifies patient care requirements for patients and ensure that their needs are met equally.  
  2. Directs special attention to pregnant women and advises them on the necessary check-ups during antenatal, childbirth and post-natal care.
  3. Explains medical procedures to the patients/beneficiaries whilst working in  a compassionate environment
  4. Assists the patients in understanding their condition, the necessary medication with dose intervals and other doctor’s recommendations. He/she will  educate patients, and with the consent of the patient, their friends and family  important self-care skills; the midwife will also answer relevant questions
  5. Assists Medical Doctor in conducting health examinations by conducting history taking, measurements, basic treatments, medicine management and dispensing, immunization and collating medical reports as well as patient follow up and specimen collection when required.
  6. Guides and assists the Queue Manager/Support Staff in patient triage, infection control and prevention, patient counselling, hygiene promotion/cleanliness etc.
  7. Assists in outreach health programmes, coordinates with Health NGO partner and volunteers and supports them in community health preventive activities.
  8. Maintains daily checklist of all medical and delivery equipment and medicines to ensure that all medical kits are ready and fully stocked, with all medical supplies organized, listed, and within the expiration period
  9. Ensures the accurate operation of equipment following manual troubleshooting malfunctions; ensure the maintenance are done in a timely manner. Maintain the medical inventory.
  10. Regularly maintains and update the record of patient care and other information related to patient. Assist medical doctor in preparing the daily report.
  11. Assist Medical Doctor in identifying priority health needs and other activities including regular diseases outbreak monitoring, collecting statistical information, taking part in health awareness campaign, etc.

Any other related task that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited academic institution; and recognized & registered by Afghan Medical and Dental Council.

Experience

  • At least one years’ experience in relevant clinical fields
  • Previous experience in international organization is an advantage. Knowledge and experience with working in the field and medical emergency department and Trauma management will be added as advantage.
  • Effectively applies knowledge on clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, administering medication, phlebotomy, maintenance etc.
  • Adequate practical knowledge on handling child delivery and its complication

Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries

Skills

Languages

Fluency in Dari, and Pashto

Working knowledge in English
