Job Description

Position Summary:

The MHPSS Counselors is an important and integral part of War Child Canada’s programs implementation team. He/she will provide Psychosocial Support including interviewing of affected youth (Specially GBV survivors), provided counseling (individual and group) and referral of special cases to other service providers. The MHPSS counselor will be also raising awareness of community people on MHPSS issues, identification and assistance of youths need MHPSS support etc.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop field activities plan in close coordination with Multipurpose Youth Center Coordinator and SRHR Officer  
  • Review/ Make the PSS materials and adjust the topics in order to cover the needs of beneficiary decreasing stress and depression
  • Conduct intake and post-session assessments for all MHPSS beneficiaries
  • Assessing and identification of beneficiaries for psychosocial support in target communities
  • Provide PSS session in group and individually to youths in MYC and as well as the community members
  • Schedule and conduct field meeting with families, community leaders, parents, teachers and children
  • Conduct psychosocial pre-developed training plans in target communities
  • Conduct PSS session with Youth and families individually and in groups when needed
  • Provide context related PSS support at the individual, family and community member’s level  
  • Ensure timely referral and follow up of cases in need of further support
  • Conduct group meetings and brainstorming sessions with beneficiaries for MHPSS related activities
  • Maintain regular follow with project team and provide them with technical support and advice when needed
  • Whenever assigned by Senior Management staff, conduct national level coordination with IEA, UN and INGOs  
  • Proactively participate in professional development activities with strong commitment of learning knowledge and skills
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor that are within the general scope of the described responsibilities or of project

Job Requirements

Skills:

  • Fluency in written and verbal English with strong analytical and critical thinking skills. 
  • Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • Good Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good knowledge of community development especially working with women,
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and presentation skills
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to speak clearly and persuasively
  • The ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced team environment
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting of deadlines
  • Good reporting skills including report compilation, analysis, and presentation
  • Extremely organized. The position holder must be diligent in recording all her/his steps because there are many moving parts in the partnership process
