Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  1. Ensures that all cases in need of basic and emergency medical assistance are provided with adequate health services.
  2. Provides basic medical screening, prescriptions for basic/essential medicines and makes referrals for chronic, emergency, or advanced care need cases.
  3. Ensuring that medical protocols and prescriptions are in line with diagnosis made and are followed appropriately by health personnel.
  4. Ensuring that universal infection control and precaution and hygiene standards are in place and maintained.
  5. Maintains regular contact with Directorate of Public Health staff and other local health stakeholders.
  6. Ensure proper documentation of patient information and daily entry into appropriate databases is maintained.
  7. Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on the progress of field activities and challenges encountered, as well as summary information on patients screened, served, and referred.
  8. Maintains a regular medical supply stock record and communicates the need for replenishment with the MHU pharmacy team.
  9. Accompanies and supports the admission of emergency medical cases from received at the border or IOM transit center to the appropriate treatment center
  10. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and collaborative relationships with clients, partners, and health professionals.
  11. Assist Migration Health National Programme Officer in project monitoring and identifying priority health needs and other activities including but not limited to regular disease outbreak monitoring and reporting, take part in health awareness campaign, etc.
  12. Take part in coordination meetings, workshops, training events and conferences at health cluster/provincial level.

Job Requirements

Education

  • University degree in Medicine, Public Health, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 years of clinical experience
  • A few years of experience in related medical field will be advantageous
  • Previous experience in development and humanitarian field is expected 

Skills

  • Ability to move or lift patients.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A patient and compassionate disposition.

Languages

Fluency in Dari, and Pashto

Working knowledge in English
