Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world.

Job Description

Job Summary: 

AFGA is looking for expert Gynecology/ Obstetric specialist for its Midwifery Help Line consultant position. AFGA Midwifery Help Line with the financial support of UNFPA Afghanistan office providing advisory services to RMNCAH services providers across the country through free short code 24/ 7. The consultant specialist will be responsible for providing 24 remote advisory services to health services providers according to services delivery SOP.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering counseling services including quality Sexual and Reproductive Health services including
    family planning, HIV/AIDS, STI, post-abortion counseling, cervical and breast cancer
    counseling etc.
  • Support midwifes to Providing appropriate supervision and advanced care to women during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period.
  • support Midwifes to conduct home based deliveries on their own in the House and taking care of the mother and newborn babies, and in case of complication referring them to health
    facilities.
  • As per the principles of basic emergency obstetric care, manage complications in
    pregnancy and childbirth Considering IP measures during the deliveries & organizing standard ANC/PNC activists to targeted areas. 
  • Consulting and educating women, family and community in areas pertaining to Health
    including mother and newborn health.
  • Offering postpartum family planning counseling services.
  • Providing consultation services for complicated cases.
  • Delivering comprehensive counseling for all FP methods.
  • Support midwifes to administrate PPH.
  • Developing an effective referral system for long-run family planning methods.
  •  support midwifes to Conduct the PNC visit for client in 48 hours after delivery and providing them the necessary Family planning method.
  • Providing information and education on Self-care.
  •  support midwifes to Rise awareness among the women during their visits and social assemblies to increase demand for services.
  • support midwives to Provide instant newborn care focusing on airway, warmth and breastfeeding.
  • support midwives to Provide daily newborn care, including physical examination, taking care of the umbilical cord, immunization, etc.
  • Ensure proper Data recording and reporting system.

           Preparing & submitting monthly reports to coordinator

Job Requirements

  • Graduated from recognize medical university.
  • Completion of specialization in the principle of Gynecology and obstetrics field.
  • Having proven 3-5 clinical experience working as clinical specialist in the field of Gynecology and Obstetric on secondary or tertiary health services level.
  • High scale of communication and ability.
  • Ability of speaking Dari and Pushto language is must and knowledge of English language is desirable.
  • Ability of using computer office package is plus point.
  • Having similar work experience is plus point.
