About AWEC

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Job Description

Position Summary:

Internal Audit is an independent assurance function established to examine and evaluate activities as a service to the organization and to contribute advice at an early stage in the implementation of any developments / amendments to processes.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Audit Planning and Preparation:

  • Develop a risk-based annual audit plan that covers financial, operational, and compliance aspects.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to schedule audits and gather necessary documentation.

Finance Department

  • Review the systems previously established to ensure compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Check all financial transactions prepare by the assistants are in compliance with the budget and are as per donors and AWEC needs and requirement
    Verification of bank reconciliations, staff advance (outstanding), program advance (outstanding), and Review of cash / fund flow.
  • Ensure the financial reports are submitted to donor as per donor requirement
  • Ensure the financial reports are submitted to donor on time
    Verification of all vouchers from  Kabuland Provinces
    Internal auditor should do verification in any fraud case independently and share with Executive Director.

Program Department

  • Verify all donor information are up to date
  • Make sure the narrative report and financial report are matching and they are as per scope of work and donor requirement
  • Ensure all narrative reports are sent on time to donor
  • Ensure that weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and plans are prepared as AWEC and donor requirement

Human Resource Department

  • Regular check of payroll
  • Ensure personal files are up to date and all documents are available in personal files
  • Check maintenance of relevant forms and systems to enable accurate staff records, including timesheets, leave records and board meeting minutes

Admin/Logistic Department

  • Make sure all contracts are available with logistic department for suppliers, house rent, vehicle rent etc.
  • Internal Auditor should be involved in all contracts with Logistic Department and any other relevant department.
  • Ensure AWEC inventory of assets is update and coded, and make physical checks of assets
  • Ensure there is proper stock and dispense office supplies and stationery.
  • Ensure all purchases and contracts are as per AWEC and donor policy and procedures
  • Ensure transparent use of transportation, correct and justifiable use of fuel, and maintain log book
  • Physical verification of stock and inventory for  Kabul and provinces

IT Department

  • Ensure all IT equipment is used for official purposes only, not used for personal use and proper records are maintained
  • Ensure all data backup are updated on weekly basis by IT.

Audit for compliance:

  • Ensure that all applicable laws, rules, and donor requirements are followed.
  • To guarantee compliance, review the conditions of grants, contracts, and other agreements.
  • Perform an investigation into any alleged fraud or irregularities

Reporting:

  • Create thorough audit reports that highlight the findings, suggestions, and plans of action.
  • inform the appropriate authority or audit committee of the findings.
  • Monitor the application of the audit's recommendations.
  • Perform any tasks assigned by his head of the department.

External Audit Liaison

  • Conducts sections of the year-end financial audit as allocated under the direction of Internal Audit Manager in liaison with external auditors.
  • Conducts periodic implementation reviews by checking the extent to which management has implemented External Audit recommendations, and provide feedback to supervisor.

Capacity Building:

  • Staff should get instruction and direction on best practices for operational and financial controls.

Confidentiality:

  • Maintain the strictest of confidences regarding all audit data and conclusions.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience 
  • Proven experience as an internal auditor, preferably in the NGO sector.
  • Strong knowledge of auditing standards, principles, and practices.
  • Familiarity with financial and operational software and systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
