Job Description

Responsibilities:

    1. Train Community Facilitators on passing health and hygiene massages to women, men, girls and boys in the project target community, such as the use of participatory hygiene and sanitation transformation, hand washing with soap and keeping drinking water safe at the point of storage. 
    2.  Conduct CLTS campaign in target communities and ensure culture sensitivity on the ground.
    3.  Carry out site observation following CLTS and declare the target community as clean ODF community if they met the criteria
    1. Prepare weekly / monthly activity schedules for Community Facilitators and seeking reports from them. Discuss field issues and provide advice to Community Facilitators in solving field problems
    1. Liaise with school authorities and implement Afghanaid’s School WASH programme effectively. Support the celebration of International Hand Washing Day in schools, along with its preparatory events.
    1. Conduct training for Community Facilitators on Participatory Health and Sanitation Transformation and assist them in carrying out PHAST process in the target villages.
    1. Carry out field survey, including observation and interview of community members, on health and hygiene practices and the use of bio-sand filters and sanitary latrines.
    1. Develop and document Case Studies and specific lessons learnt for qualitative reporting of progress of the project
    1. Prepare monthly work plans, reports, and beneficiary lists on a regular basis; file and store them in an accessible manner for report writing and audit.
    2. Facilitating of Community led total sanitation CLTS.
    3. Facilitating sanitation facilities and hygiene kit distribution on community level.
    4. Conduct baseline, monitoring and final household survey and help, train and mentor WASH covered communities.
  • Any other duties as and when assigned by the line manager, MD and/or Directorate.
 

Job Requirements

Education & Professional Qualification

Diploma in a related field, University degree is desirable.

Work Experience

Minimum three years of experience in a similar capacity, Prior work experience in the fields of community development and community mobilisation. Experience in assessing training needs and building the capacity of project participants Professional Skills, Competencies, Values and Attitudes

Key Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • It is necessary for the candidate to have previous experience of working directly with rural women and girls and men and boys in awareness raising, capacity building and leading change processes.
  • Membership of WASH Committees or familiarity with their working is desirable excellent knowledge of community development and social mobilisation.
  • Proven management ability and strong interpersonal skills – team player.
  • Problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in the most common computer software including word processing, and excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to deal with difficult, often frustrating work situations.
  • A willingness to live, travel and work in isolated and possibly dangerous locations.
  • Gender sensitivity.
  • Sensitivity to Islamic culture.
  • Commitment to support/develop the capacity of the national staff and of rural communities.
  • Personal integrity and a sense of humour.
  • Knowledge of personal strengths and weaknesses.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities in personal workload.
  • Knowledge of exit strategies and sustainability issues.
