Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1.1 Project design and development (30%).

  • Working with the PDQA and MEAL team on evidence-based project design and proposal development, with a focus on longer term funding for more sustainable service delivery. 
  • Working closely with the PDQA to ensure needs assessments, partnership assessments, and monitoring and evaluation efforts support the strategic fundraising objectives. 
  • In close coordination with PDQA support the development of quality go/no go analysis and subsequent proposals, including: strategy and narrative proposals; budget (with finance), theories of change, risk management plans; project work-plans; organisational development plans; and MEAL plans. This includes cofacilitating project design workshops and project start up meetings with the Head of Programmes.
  • In cooperation with MEAL team, coordinate the development of project briefs for WCUK interventions in Afghanistan.
  • Maintain trackers for past, current, and future awards including all deadlines and award information.
  • Assisting Programmes and support teams to ensure compliance with the WCUK Quality Framework, Grant Management Policy and the Child Protection Minimum Standards through programme design and implementation.
  • Working closely with technical advisors in WCUK and partner organisations to ensure adherence to best practices, standards, and guidelines in project design and grant management.

1.2 Grant management (30%)

  • Act as country focal point for providing advice and support to programme staff and partners to manage donor contracts, including narrative reporting of institutionally funded projects in line with WCUK’s grant management and financial management procedures, donor requirements, and War Child’s Essential Standards.
  • Organize grant kick of meeting with WCUK and partners for new projects.
  • Organise monthly grant review meetings with programme/ project staffs and support team and compile grant overview report
  • Take ownership of all aspects of donor contracts, including maintenance of accurate records, and communicate to all relevant WCUK staff and partners on compliance issues.
  • Accompany donors and programme staff as required in monitoring visits.

1.3 Reporting (20%)

  • Lead on the internal and donor reports to ensure that reports are submitted on time and as per the quality standards.
  • Build the capacity of staffs and partners on report writing
  • Work closely with MEAL team to ensure that evidences are collected on time to support quality reports.
  •  Develop reporting calendar with timeline and share with programme and partner staffs and follow up timely reporting

1.4 Building partnerships with donors, INGOs and clusters (10%)

  • In close coordination PDQA and HOP, develop, nurture and manage relationships with donor organisations, and create opportunities to share WCUK’s programme experiences with donors through regular communication and sharing information and success stories.
  • Engage with relevant cluster leads to ensure all project design is in line with wider sector priorities and approaches.
  • Coordinate on the development of in country funding plans, as well as identifying funding opportunities through donor and partner mapping exercises.
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities in line with country strategic objectives.
  • Liaise with other INGOs, government bodies, cluster leads, and donors to identify potential strategic partnerships and collaborations for new and long-term institutional funding opportunities.
  • Keep up-to-date with donor landscape in Afghanistan and propose changes or amendments in the country annual funding plans.

1.5 Capacity building staff & local partners (10%)

  • Build capacity of staff and partners through trainings and workshops on grant management.
  • Lead workshops for staff and partners on evidence gathering, writing styles, proposal development, and knowledge of different donors and their priorities.
  • Contribute to capacity development plans of partners and conduct capacity building in areas of responsibility as required.

 

Safeguarding:

  • Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to War Child’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, social sciences and other relevant fields of study.
  • At least 5 years of previous experience in grant management or similar role is essential.
  • Experience in proposal development, grant management, and representation.
  • Familiarity with project and grant management cycles.
  • Experience in desk-based analysis and field evidence gathering.
  • Ability to synthesise information clearly and concisely.
  • Comfortable and willing to work in a dynamic security context. 
  • Experience designing and implementing grant management best practice.
  • Experience of capacity building of staff through coaching, training and mentoring.
  • Dynamic and motivated with a positive and collegial attitude to joint problem solving.
  • Strong focus on timely and quality outputs.
  • Self-reflective and open to feedback from direct reports and line management.
  • Able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, and with competing priorities.
