About Future Generations Afghanistan

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar,Nuristan,Logar, Herat and Bamyan Provinces.

Job Description

The main responsibility of this position is to handle problems related to watershed through estimating Runoff and create catchment area on ArcGIS. identifying the catchment areas of watersheds for watershed management projects.

Job Requirements

  • to handle spatial and non-spatial data and it is important in runoff and sediment yield modelling. Ultimately using GIS analysis.
  • The GIS/Mapping Specialist will assist with mapping activities related to water resource projects, including watershed studies, floodplain management, and GIS-related projects
  • The GIS Specialist is responsible for planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS data in accordance with the requirements of watershed management related projects.
  • The GIS Specialist is responsible for identifying the catchment areas of watersheds for watershed management projects.
  • Identifying the geographical location issues of collected data and reporting those on time
  • Guiding the preparing of geographical maps from the collected data at the end of project for preparing the final report
  • Present the daily, weekly and monthly reports when necessary and provide information on activities and achievements to the executive management team of the organization.
  • Conduct quality control and monitoring of GIS products and projects
  • Develop high level technical expertise to provide assistance to clients
  • Participate in assessments and requirement analysis of technical projects in/out the region
  • Assist designated departments as a whole in the production of more specialized maps
  • Ensure different types of maps like provincial and national are produced on regular basis and distributed to the designated departments
  • Producing maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including properties data and so on.
  • Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
  • Ensure coordination in GIS with other use, including cross-sectional analysis and reports, where necessary
  • Conduct training and provide skills development support to Provinces and regions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plan in accordance with strategy of the organization for achieving pre-defined goals

Qualification:

  •  Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking and program development;
  • Ability to work with a team in a multi-cultural environment, preferably working experiences in developing MIS, GIS and ICT projects
  • Commitment to new technology and specific skill in requested areas
