The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Responsibilities:
Examine patients and make diagnoses to determine the need for surgery.
Review patient medical history and plan the best procedure for treatment.
Evaluate and advise patients on the risk involved with having surgery.
Perform surgical procedures to prevent or correct injury, disease, deformities, and patient
function while adhering to regulatory and ethical protocols.
Follow established surgical techniques during surgery.
Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatment and procedures.
Ensure sterility in the operating room, and all equipment and instruments.
Direct and coordinate activities of Surgery department staff for proper patient care.
Oversee all treatment prior to and post-surgery, and identify associated risks.
Coordinate follow-up meetings with patients and monitor health conditions after surgery or
treatment.
Qualification Required:
Specialization in General surgery;
At least Three years of work experience in a similar position
Abilities/Skills:
Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple
tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing, analytical and
communication skills in Dari, Pashtu and English (preferable)
