Islamic Relief Worldwide – Afghanistan Country Office (IRW) is an international non-profitable non-governmental humanitarian relief organization with its headquarter in UK-Birmingham. It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. IRA started its humanitarian activities for Afghan Refugees in Pakistan and Afghan people inside since then; IRA continued assisting in emergency relief, food security, women empowerment, girl education, orphan sponsorship, health, emergency education, shelter, Ramadan, and Qurbani programs.

 
 

Job Description

Job Summary

The Multimedia Producer leads effort to gather and deliver compelling and engaging multimedia content for social media, web, internal/external, and archives including features, photos, videos, infographics, webcasts, and podcasts. Under the supervision of the Communications & External Relations Manager, he/she identifies audio-visual communication needs and contributes to the production of high-quality and relevant content to strengthen the visibility and operational objectives of the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

Content Production

  • Produce compelling multimedia content that tells strong and engaging stories for use on Islamic Relief’s various media platforms and that can be pitched externally to media.
  • Identify audiovisual communication tools and needs for each project according to the objectives, messages, and target audience at national, regional, and international levels.
  • Ensure all audiovisual communication materials are in accordance with Islamic Relief’s audiovisual quality and ethical standards (infographics, photos, videos, etc.).
  • Ensure all visual materials such as short web clips and documentaries are properly subtitled for our regional and international audiences.
  • Contribute to the regular publication of dynamic and engaging content on IR’s digital platforms in Afghanistan and/or international platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and website), in close collaboration with the communications team.
  • He/she remains open to new technologies and trends and regularly proposes innovative and creative formats to diversify IR’s audiovisual productions in Afghanistan.
  •  Identify opportunities to present content about IR’s activities in Afghanistan on various platforms such as social networks, media, exhibitions, partnerships, etc.
  • Ensures the proper archiving of audiovisual productions made in the country to build an “institutional memory.”
  • Map and build up a network of freelancers (photographers, videographers, translators, graphic designers) that can be hired for projects if needed.
  • Designing of visibility materials such as banners, stickers, brochures, booklets, and newsletters for respective projects.
  • Coordinate and support private printing agencies contracted by IRAF to ensure they produce high-quality print materials

Capacity Building:

  • Identify the capacity-building needs of the field team members and establish a training plan adapted to each one (taking pictures and videos, captioning pictures, basic editing, etc.).
  • Training of IRAF field staff to enable them to collect simple audiovisual content via their smartphones.
  • Provides advice and support on elements of multimedia production, such as taking pictures and videos, digital storytelling, and editing, as needed, either remotely or by visiting project locations.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Liaises with communications and production colleagues across IR’s regional and global teams to manage production and internal dissemination of content according to IR standards
  • Works with communications colleagues across the IR family to develop and deliver packages, including validating materials before they’re disseminated.
  • Seek validation from the regional media curator for all materials such as photos and videos before they’re shared on IR digital platform
  • Work closely with seasonal and emergency project teams at the CO and field level for maximum results in producing high-quality audiovisual materials.
  • Report on the regular status of the multimedia activities i.e. upcoming visits and production schedule etc. 
  • Continuously document incidents and challenges encountered during audiovisual productions and share relevant information and lessons learned with the supervisor and other team members.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Contributes to analyzing the performance of packages and the creation of reports alongside the communications officer
  • Manages the purchase, inventory and upkeep of communications equipment such as cameras.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating licensing and copyright audit trails.
  • Ensure that IR’s audiovisual standards, in terms of quality and ethics, are respected during all audiovisual productions in Afghanistan, and actively promote good practices within the team
  • Perform any other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Degree in Journalism, Communication, Audio-visual Production, or related University Degree. 

Experience: 

Essential-

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in producing and editing audio-visual content according to international standards (photos, videos, graphics).
  • Experience with mobile journalism equipment and techniques.
  • Experience filming with a DSLR camera kit.
  •  Experience in conducting on-camera interviews.
  • Copy/script-writing skills and the ability to adapt style to suit a range of audiences.
  •  Good understanding of editing workflows, including trans-coding, ingesting and archiving footage.
  • Thorough understanding of online video channels, social media, emerging technologies, and innovative approaches for content creation within emergency contexts.
  •  Expert knowledge, skill and experience of Adobe Creative Cloud suite, in particular Adobe Premier Pro.
  • Ability to work independently to general guidelines; capacity to take initiative and seize opportunities.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Local languages are an asset.
