Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 36% of the population below the poverty line. Of the 35.5 million Afghans, about 24 million are living in the countryside, being more or less dependent on agriculture and livestock. Most of the rural families keep small ruminants, but also cattle, donkeys, and poultry are common. As livestock is a vital element of the daily lives of the Afghans, DCA is helping the Afghan people by boosting the health and production of their livestock. Healthier and more productive animals increase food security and are a source of extra income for families.

Job Description

General Position Summary

The Field Facilitators will be responsible for direct management and implementation of the project activities in 16 targeted provinces/ Districts/Villages. S/he will be responsible for the coordination of the project activities with all stakeholders at the provincial, district and village levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage fieldwork in the provincial, district and village levels based on given work plan and activities.
  • Carry out field assessments such as baseline survey, need assessment, project progress. etc.
  • Introduction of the project to relevant stakeholders (Public sector, VFU staff, stop shop keepers, farmers, Traders).
  • Doing assessment and finding suitable places and candidates (existing VFUS, new trainees, Milk Collection Centers (MCCs), Rural Dairy Processing Plants (RDPPs), Stop-shopkeepers, lamb fattening, farmers extension groups, Pasture Management Committee, Poultry Program, Apiculture).
  • Identifying beneficiaries (Male and female) using the selection criteria.
  • Establishing new VFUs based on the standards set by DCA
  • Leading Farmers Field Days, Exchange Visits, Ag-fair etc.
  • Establishing and equipping stop shops (next to VFU staff or another suitable place).
  • Reporting to the Regional Hub Coordinator and finally to Project Manager.
  • Preparing and sharing all paper work
  • Conducting and leading campaigns
  • Leading all asset distribution
  • Accompanying and giving information needed by MEAL team
  • Attending provincial meetings and sharing the outcomes of the meetings with senior staff
  • Doing tasks assigned by Regional Hub Coordinator or Project Manager

Job Requirements

  • DVM, BSC in Animal Science, Extension or similar fields
  • At least five years of experiencing in a similar field with non-profit organizations.
  • Good Communication and public Relation Skills
  • Excellent skills in Dari, Pashto, and English Languages.
  • Good Community Mobilizing skills.
  • Having good time management and planning skills.
  • Willing to visit frequently the field.
