Job Description

  1. Fabrication of dental prosthetics:
    • Fabricate dental crowns, bridges, dentures, partials, and orthodontic appliances from impressions, models, and specifications provided by the dentist.
    • Prepare, model, and design dental prosthetics using various materials, including metals, ceramics, acrylics, and composites.
    • Ensure the prosthetics fit accurately and are functional for the patient, following the dentist’s specifications.
  2. Repairs and adjustments:
    • Repair and adjust existing dentures, crowns, bridges, and other dental prosthetics as necessary.
    • Work closely with dentists to make adjustments to prosthetics based on patient feedback or clinical needs.
  3. Impression and model preparation:
    • Create accurate impressions or molds of patients’ teeth and gums, using different materials such as alginate or silicone.
    • Prepare models from these impressions for the fabrication of dental prosthetics.
  4. Quality control and precision:
    • Ensure that all dental appliances are created to the highest standards of accuracy, fit, and durability.
    • Conduct regular checks to confirm that all work meets industry standards, as well as any additional specifications from the dental team.
  5. Material handling:
    • Select appropriate materials for different dental appliances, ensuring quality, safety, and suitability for each case.
    • Work with a variety of dental materials, including metals, ceramics, plastics, and resins.
  6. Collaboration with dentists and clinical Staff:
    • Work closely with dentists and other clinical staff to understand patient requirements and ensure the appropriate dental appliances are created.
    • Communicate effectively with dentists regarding any concerns or adjustments needed in the dental prosthetics process.
  7. Maintenance of equipment and work area:
    • Maintain dental equipment, tools, and machinery in good working condition, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
    • Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation of the laboratory and all equipment to prevent contamination.
  8. Record keeping and documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of dental prosthetics orders, patient specifications, and the materials used.
    • Ensure all work is properly documented for future reference or modifications.
  9. Patient interaction:
    • Interact with patients to take impressions or provide them with appliances, while maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor.
    • Explain to patients the use and care of their dental appliances.
  10. Continuous learning:
    • Stay up to date with advances in dental technology and materials to improve skills and knowledge of modern techniques and tools.
    • Participate in training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance technical proficiency and understanding of industry standards.
 

Job Requirements

Essential qualifications:

  1. Education and Certification:
    • A diploma or degree in dental technology from an accredited institution.
    • Certification or licensure as a dental technician.
  2. Experience:
    • Proven experience of 3 years as a dental technician, ideally in a clinical or hospital setting.
    • Experience in fabricating dental prosthetics, crowns, bridges, dentures, or orthodontic appliances.
    • Hands-on experience with dental laboratory equipment and tools.
    • Knowledge of dental materials and their appropriate use.
  3. Skills and competencies:
    • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail to ensure precise and accurate work.
    • Knowledge of dental anatomy, prosthodontics, and orthodontics.
    • Ability to follow instructions and specifications provided by dentists.
    • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make adjustments as necessary.
    • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the dental team effectively.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time efficiently.
  4. Physical and mental fitness:
    • Ability to work with precision tools and materials for extended periods.
    • Ability to maintain focus and concentration, especially in a high-paced environment.

 

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Additional training:
    • Additional certifications in specialized areas, such as orthodontic appliance fabrication, implant prosthetics, or CAD/CAM technology, would be an advantage.
  2. Technology proficiency:
    • Experience with dental technology systems, digital impression techniques is a plus.

 

  1. Experience with Specific Dental Procedures:
    • Familiarity with advanced procedures, such as implant-supported crowns or bridges, complex dentures, or pediatric dentistry.
