Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

  1. Conduct community-based assessments to identify the potential risks and vulnerabilities. This involves collecting data on the community's infrastructure, resources, and population demographics.
  2. Assist to implement disaster preparedness plans with the community based on assessments, to outline how the community will respond to diverse types of disasters.
  3. Conduct trainings sessions for community members on topics such as first aid, search and rescue, and evacuation procedures. Support the DRR engineers to facilitate technical sessions on care and maintenance works.
  4. Support service mapping with other organizations and agencies for the coordination of the convenient services that can support the community's disaster preparedness efforts.
  5. Assist to promote awareness about disaster risks and the importance of preparedness within the community through various channels such as social media, community meetings, and workshops.
  6. Facilitate community meetings to discuss disaster preparedness plans, provide updates on progress, and gather feedback from community members.
  7. In the event of a disaster, the selected candidate will support engagement with local authorities and emergency responders to assist the coordination of the community's response efforts.
  8. Assist to monitor the carrying out of cash for work activities conducted through the community committees.
  9. The selected candidate will support M&E and other respective parties to facilitate effective implementation of the monitoring and evaluating plan.
  10. Overall, the selected candidate role as a Community Mobilizer is critical in helping communities to be adequately prepared to respond to disasters and minimize their impact.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as disaster management, social work, community development, or public health with at least one year of relevant professional experience,
  • or
  • High School diploma with at least three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Certification in First Aid, Search & Rescue and other relevant training programs.

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience in community mobilization, disaster management, or related fields.
  • Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS word, excel etc.)
  • Experience in conducting training workshops and developing training materials.
  • A strong understanding of disaster risk management principles, community-based approaches to disaster preparedness, and local government structures.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to different communities within the program area.

Languages

  • For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • Fluency in the local languages (Dari and Pashto) spoken in the community is required.
