About Citizen Organization for Advocacy and Resilience( COAR )

Citizen Organization for Advocacy and Resilience, COAR (formally Coordination of Afghan Relief) CoAR is an Afghan, independent, non-political, non-sectarian, and non-for-profit organization established in 1989 and registered formally with the Ministry of Economy. COAR actively bridges between donors of humanitarian aid and rural Afghan communities severely affected by almost four decades of wars, internal conflicts, natural and manmade disasters, and complexities. COAR endeavors to reach the unreached and embark on strengthening local coping mechanisms to enable communities to find durable local solutions to their local problems and encourage self-reliance and sustainability. COAR works with communities to proactively utilize their own scarce and limited resource in the most efficient and effective way and discourage a culture of aid dependency, except in times of disasters and extreme poverty. COAR has maintained the access of beneficiaries to basic services with strict observation of humanitarian principles of Independence, Neutrality, and Impartiality in practice.

Job Description

To begin baseline research of selected communities, and continue to monitor social change and new social information relevant to community empowerment;
To identify potential leaders, Elders and/or organizers;
To motivate and encourage potential leaders to talk to their fellow community members about the importance of education.
To initiate actions aimed at breaking down passivity, apathy and attitudes of letting others do things for them;
To raise awareness of the community members about the need for education, and to show them ways they can do this for themselves;
To assist community members to identify needs and to generate solutions, identifying priority issues and to analyze their problems;
To encourage and stimulate community members to organize for action aimed at solving their problems and to plan, implement and monitor action that they define themselves;
To provide community leaders with management skills and knowledge in getting community members interested, organized and motivated;
To develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members;
To assist the community in obtaining available outside resources, warning of the negative effects of becoming too dependent upon outside resources;
To encourage and stimulate full participation by all community members; with special attention to those who are usually forgotten, marginalized and overlooked in community decision making;
To assist the community in obtaining information and knowledge that may be available through governmental and non-governmental agencies, through extension and outreach programs; and
To assist the community members in developing their own capacity and strength to the point where they no longer need the services of you the mobilizer.

Job Requirements

Bachelor degree
At least 2 years relevant working experience in Social mobilization.
Ability to work at the camp level
Excellent report and planning skills
Strong local knowledge
Proficiency with local language and strong working knowledge of English & Urdu language (preferred)
Work experience with community-based projects
Ability to travel to the project sites within the assigned camp/ district
Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team to undertake tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Must be flexible, willing to perform urgent task when needed in informal time.
Knowledge and experience of keeping school record, methodologies and approaches (including data collection both quantitative, qualitative as well as participatory)
Candidates should be self-disciplined and motivated critical thinkers who are willing to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues.
