SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programs concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is slightly over 7,386.During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming, and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities, and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Job Description

Communication Officer under direct supervision of Project Manager will be responsible for Develop, write and edit communications materials, including Banner, brochure, magazine, success story, and social media content. also responsible for field visit from target groups of Area based Approach to development emergency initiatives ABADEI project and raise awareness, develop case story, take pictures, prepare video from work progress and target groups, and provide information to district office team regarding data collection from success BNFs in Balkh, Samangan, and Jawzjan provinces

Communication Officer reports directly to ABADEI project Manager at Mazar Regional Management Office.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Collect information from Project work progress.
  • Develop ABADEI project related audio, video, and printed awareness materials.
  • Study ABADEI project beneficiary cases and select appropriate beneficiaries for the success stories.
  • Make film from ABADEI project sections activities and broad casting from local TV.
  • Write success stories/articles, publish, and share it with relevant stakeholders as well as publish it in the communities.
  • Coordinate ABADEI Project events with relevant stakeholders and media through communication unit.
  • Lead conduction of awareness raising campaigns.
  • Collect feedbacks of beneficiaries regarding the Ability newsletter, IEC materials, and awareness activities of ABADEI project.
  • Participate in all ABADEI project important event in the regions.
  • To maintain a record of all events and publications done within the project
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual activities report to the line supervisor.
  • Sharing the ABADEI Project information, success stories, and event reports and photos with other stakeholders and RMOs and KMO colleagues
  • Liaise with RMO and KMO communication units for awareness raising related issues.
  • Design Banner, brushers, success story, video and audio for ABADEI project activities. approaches to address those challenges through communication unit.
  • Develop and distribute advocacy related videos, radio, and IEC materials with support of advocacy senior officer.
  • Support Engineering unit colleagues in developing informative and awareness raising video for Construction projects.
  • Record minutes of all meetings conducted with local authorities when required.
  • Visit Saving groups and Local Coordination committee to give technical support on how to raise and do awareness. 
  • Any other task assigned by line Manager related to scope of work.  

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Arts & Literature, or equivalent in related professional field.
  • 2-3 years’ relevant experience, especially within an NGO, UN agencies or similar organization. Experience in digital & print media and designing of IEC materials is must.
  • Computer skill at operator level, especially with MS Office packages, adobe package such as Photoshop, premier, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to write & develop case and success stories.
  • Ability to facilitate round table discussions.
  • Team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Develop and design disability awareness audio, video, and printed materials
  • Experience of planning, reporting, budgeting, designing, and awareness raising.

  • Honest, proactive, and well mannered.
  • To be Afghan National.
