Overview of position
Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.
Purpose of the post:
The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster.
Background
Access and use of social media in Afghanistan has grown in the past decades, providing new platforms for public discourse through open expression. Social media has a great potential in promoting polio programme in the country although increased social media incidents have caused more harm than good to the programme. Negative propaganda manifesting itself through anti-vaccine rhetoric, "fake news" and staged viral videos with alleged adverse effects and have caused panic and derailed polio campaign efforts in Afghanistan. In response, the polio programme is working through various social media platforms, predominantly through FB page to drown negative rumors and misinformation, while at the same time advancing the importance of polio vaccination among other programme priorities.
In this light, the polio programme would like to recruit 1 social media Officers - Extenders to support polio social media team in accelerating the online engagement, increase polio awareness, track and rumors/misinformation and advance social listening in the communities. The social media officers will be based in the National Emergency Operating Center (NEOC) but will be able to travel to the field to gather content for the website.
QUALIFICATION and COMPETENCIES
University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Communication, Journalism, Social Media studies, Media studies, Social Sciences, Communication for Development
Two years of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization. Experience working in the polio programme and large health campaigns. Training and experience in social media and general communication
Fluency in English is required and fluent in both Pashto and Dari language
