Community World Service Asia is a regional non-governmental organization, which implements humanitarian and development activities in Asia. The Regional Representative heads the program in Asia. According to the strategic plan, the Head of communications requires A Communication & Data management Officer based in Kabul with frequent travel to field to assist in effectively providing visibility and promotion to all programs and projects.

Job Description

Job Purpose:

To assist the Communications Office in providing support with developing program visibility plans and writing updates, stories, and articles for visibility of projects/programs, conducting event coverage and field visits to collect stories and updates on projects.

Job summary:

To assist the Head of Communications in producing publications and website content (written and visual) by collecting information from programs and through field visits. The communication & Data management Officer based in Kabul Office and is also particularly responsible for identifying communication needs in the various segments of the projects in Khost and Paktika and implement the projects’ communication plans. The position shall coordinate with other activities within projects and other programs under Community World Service Asia and develop appropriate communication/promotional material.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Head of Communications with identifying and writing key information, stories, photographs, and visuals, updates to share with donors/partners through website, monthly news bulletins, newsletter, annual report, Facebook, and other means.
  • Sub-edit and edit stories and updates received from Program staff in line with the organization’s communication guidelines
  • Support effective implementation of visibility plans by maintaining knowledge of all Community World Service Asia’s current projects, assigned tasks within visibility plans, and ensuring timely completion of assignments.
  • Travel to the field, when necessary, to collect information (stories, interviews, photos, and videos) from project activities or provide support in training activities, at local and international levels
  • Apply initiative and creativity to offer new or improved ideas for communications output, practices, and systems.
  • Assist Project Manager with identifying and writing key information, stories, photographs, sub-editing and visuals, updates to share with partners
  • Ensuring Communications Guidelines are followed
  • Editing of photos and designing of basic communication material.
  • Maintain effective recordkeeping to ensure accurate and timely filing of soft and hard copies of Communications Office material and correspondence, documentaries, and photographs.
  • Ensure all communications outputs are of the highest quality in terms of content and final presentation. This includes any written, audio, or visual aspects of the material.
  • Arranging communication related orientations for project staff i.e. photography and documentation of case stories in Kabul and other offices in Afghanistan.
  • Ensuring Communications Guidelines are followed
  • Liaising with consultants working on Communication outputs
  • Ensure all communications outputs reflect Community World Service Asia, its work, and its stakeholders in a transparent, reliable, and understandable manner.
  • All processes, interactions, and methods of obtaining information must also adhere to Community World Service Asia's commitment toward accountability and particularly for preserving the dignity of the communities we assist.

The responsibilities listed above cover most of the tasks that would be performed by the individual in this position; however, the employee can also be assigned other relevant official tasks by Supervisor and/or Management as and when required. 

Technical Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational, information management, and analytical skills
  • Very good English writing and speaking skills
  • Social media savvy and confident, willing and able to learn in a dynamic web-based environment
  • Skills in photography and videography
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team              
  • Knowledge of local languages preferred
  • Must be tolerant and sensitive to needs of religious and ethnic minorities, women and the poor.

IT: Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, DSLRs, Web-based soft wares and able to well present and analyse information.

Languages: Excellent command of English and local languages.
