About Future Generations Afghanistan

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar,Nuristan,Logar, Herat and Bamyan Provinces.

Job Description

The main responsibility of this position is to provide engineering assistance with plans, designs, costs estimation for designs and cost estimates for construction, Coordinates with various design disciplines and policies.

 

Job Requirements

  • Fully responsible for Sub-Projects design
  • Guide, monitor, and report on technical progress, developments, and trends
  • Providing design and drafting services for the conceptual and detail design phases of a project
  • Oversee technical recordkeeping
  • Design cost and estimate all related component of Project 
  • Identify technical capacity building needs and resources for staff and other stakeholders.
  • Interpreting survey results into technical drawings
  • Review and approve the detailed engineering design, including all drawings, specifications and supporting calculations and documentation for the Project.
  • Coordinate closely with senior management to develop and implement training plan.
  • Establish the schedule, methods and procedures for the construction supervision of all earthworks and structural elements.
  • Facilitate staff, community, and institutional networking to share project experiences and information
  • Guide and assist internal evaluation of project processes and procedures, and participate in similar external improvement efforts
  • Ensure non-partisan, culturally and socially appropriate implementation of project
  • Uphold mission, values, and spirit of FGA; follow and enforce all FGA codes of conduct and policies (worldwide and in-country); report any violations to appropriate FGA authority, and participate in preventative initiatives
  • Coordination of design review and construction supervision of all project structural elements, including temporary works, earthworks, bridges, retaining walls, drainage culverts and any other structures including the management of the structural/bridge engineering team in coordination with the Senior Engineer and Program Manager.
  • Participate all needed technical meetings in the central, regional and province level and provide meeting minutes to supervisors and technical staff if any. 
  • Maintain technical records, and assist to maintain similar records.
  • Ensure any required technical documentation is completed and submitted to appropriate authorities
  • Assist with formation of simple, sustainable operation and maintenance plans and procedures for implementation at site level
  • Site visit and see SPs physical work and guide site workers for technical performance
  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates
  • Provide proper  plan for  sub-projects Survey, design ,Physical implementation and monitoring with the close coordination of  his immediate supervisor
  • Provide SPs budget BG forecasts based of Project requirement
  • Provide SPs progress report to FGA office.
  • Oversee direct project support to communities and institutions during planning, design, implementation, and operation/maintenance stages
  • Monthly based monitoring  of  SPs for economic aspects  and allocated  budget when they are  executing
  • Provided BOQ during subprojects changes within allocated budget for projects.

 

Qualification:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and coordination skills and proven ability to work constructively with a variety of stake holders to achieve common goals
  • Good computer skills including MS Office Package, Civil 3D, Auto CAD and other design software
  • Excellent knowledge of English and local languages, both spoken and written skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and process information into action to not delay program activities.
  • Should have the ability to have frequent travels to all project’s targeted areas.Experience on various structural designs and documentations including design of all required earthworks, retaining walls, drainage and any other required structures
